Re: Do you think we'll see Blofeld return to Bond series?
"For Your Eyes Only" and the rest of the 80's Bond films directed by John Glen seem really small and cheap compared to the other films in the series. What a sad time for the franchise.
FYEO and TLD could have been great Bond films in the hands of a capable director with respectable budgets. LTK is particularly embarrassing considering it came out the same time as Batman and Indiana Jones.

I just view these as products of their time. Saw Skyfall at The Alamo today and they showed clips of Bond films before the feature. Goldfingers opening credits with Shirley Bassey belting out the tune came on and a guy next to me who seemed around my age groaned loudly "this is horrible!" They were just such a big part of my childhood I have a hard part finding fault with them for the most part. But I can see how others who don't have an attachment to them would.
However License To Kill changed that. I was highly critical of that film at the time. It was embarrassing as Guru Askew says. I walked out of the theater stunned that we had yet another stinker that summer and it was Bond. Trek V and Ghostbusters 2 being the others. I really didn't start enjoying the Bond films again until the Casino Royale reboot.

I had to Google to see who the character is.
I really doubt we'd see him back. Not after Austin Powers. It would be too distracting.

I can't imagine his return, especially after Austin Powers. Even now, when I see him in the original movies and can't help but say "Look what you did to Mr. Bigglesworth!"
I think the movie is one of Moore's best, and is one of the only films from his tenure I will own. I can forgive everything about the movie, except his refusing sex. It's hilarious how out of character it is.
And his car blowing up with the "henchman" next to it, that leaves me rolling.

No to Blofeld but I'd like to see Mr. White in one of the next ones if just for a cameo. It's a little odd how in Quantum he attempts a hit on M, Bond is hellbent on exacting revenge, then he just disappears a 1/3rd into the movie never to be spoken of again.

SPECTRE was resurrected in the John Gardner novels. Blofeld's daughter was the new head of SPECTRE. EON owns rights to all Bond novels. If the character appears in a book they have the rights to, they could probably use the character. Since McClory owns "Blofeld" and SPECTRE, some deal had to be made to include them in the novels, which probably clears the way for adaptaion of those novels.

MGM now has the rights to the Thunderball remake [i]Never Say Never Again[/b], but I believe everything else is still owned by McClory's estate. It's a huge legal mess.

I'd rather they stayed away from this just for the sake of continuity. Something I like about the Bond series is that generally you can dive in anywhere and be fine plotwise. They're episodic. It's nice to be able to pop a random movie in, as opposed to having to watch all 23 freaking movies in a row to get the full story.
Sure there have been some carry-overs like Blofeld, but generally you can watch them casualy. There are some odd characters like Joe Don Baker in Goldeneye & Tomorrow Never Dies and such, but they tend to be fairly inconsequential characters.
I'm a bit concerned with Craig's movies being an ongoing story (I haven't seen Skyfall yet so I can't comment on that), because I don't want to see the episodic nature change.

Skyfall takes place several years after Quantum of Solace and is very much a stand-alone story.
