So a lot of movies with or without cgi have had the t & O look since then.
I used to think it was because of the cgi, but if photoshop can fix a bad pic then it can make a movie look with normal with correct colors.

Re: Skyfall (Mendes, 2012) The Double-O Reviews Thread
I love Albert Finney, but I was thinking how amazing it would've been had that character been played by Sean Connery as his final role. And of course he would've had to die. But how great would it have been? He'd be playing a grizzled Scottish dude, and it would've been full circle for both Connery and Bond.
It mentions how Sean Connery didn't like Cubby and how Roger Moore got them together at a party. Cubby approached Sean and Sean told him he was still mad at him. Sean Connery did not attend Cubby's funeral.
No way Sean would have appeared in SKY FALL.

Have you guys here in DVDTALK read the Roger Moore bio?

It's more than just superficial similarities, and Mendes has outright said TDK was a big point of reference for this film.
It's not surprising. TDK is one of the biggest films of recent years, and for many set a new standard for action filmmaking. I except Skyfall won't be the last film to take its cues from TDK.

I know Mendes said that, but frankly, the film he made and the similarities between the two people are pointing to, does not evidence that Mendes used TDK as a reference point in the QT fashion at all.
TDK is one of the biggest films of recent years, yes, but it didn't do anything that new. It simply used standard serious action/thriller elements and applied them to a comic book movie, hence the seeming novelty.
Going back in this thread to the screen cap comparisons that were posted (I believe by you). The held in captivity shots are both pulled from The Silence of the Lambs. The building explosions are generic. In action movies buildings explode. The fact that Joker and Silva have facial scars...come on...that is a known thing. Hell, even the bad guy in Lion King has a facial scar.
I understand what Mendes said and I think because of that people are searching for direct references to TDK in Skyfall that do not exist. Not every director is Tarantino where if they mention that a film was used as a reference point then it means they pulled actual shots from it to use in their film. I think Mendes may have looked to it as an example of big action film making b/c he had no experience there, but I recently read an interview of Deakins where he said Mendes also watched a bunch of Peckinpah and other famous action movies to get a sense of the cinematic language going in.
And if he ever comes out and says, X shot in Skyfall is meant to copy or is a play on Y shot in TDK, then it is what it is and I'll think a little less of him for choosing to make TDK his standard instead of putting in the work that Nolan did and QT always does, in pulling variant elements from multiple sources.

Saw it this weekend and enjoyed it. Definitely better than QoS, but I still prefer CR. I agree with all sentiments that the acting was great all around.
I had two bigger issues that held me back from loving it:
1) The baddie wasn't set up for you to be invested in him and his agenda. This was M's version of the Goldeneye story, but the issue is the audience wasn't given the first hand set up ala the Russian base.
2) They brought in so many old Bond elements back into the story. I thought Q worked, but Moneypenny and M in an old wood office left me feeling like I was watching an old Bond film. I thought CR established a new Bondverse by poking at these things but leaving out. Now they are back? - disappointing.
Also, and less of an issue, I felt like they introduced a lot of issues for Bond, but didn't specifically address him getting over them. Yes, I did recognize the significance of the final setting.

I don't know if you're being serious, but that is really how everyone in the Bond production camp refers to Albert R. Broccoli, who was the long-time Producer. Even Michael G. Wilson, his step son, and his daughter Barbara refer to him as Cubby.

Apparently Straw Dogs is the Home Alone for people over 30. They made a remake it's on Netflix I'll check it out when I get bored.

It was awesome. Wouldn't change a minute. Blows away Casino Royale which I liked very much. Bond franchise goes from one of the absolute worst 007 outings - QOS - to one of the absolute best.

I saw Skyfall today and I was very impressed. For my money this one is better than Casino Royale.
But as good as the cast is (and the cast is excellent overall) the real stars of Skyfall are the writers (Neal Purvis & Robert Wade, and John Logan), editor (Stuart Baird), cinematographer (Roger Deakins), and director (Sam Mendes). They all did fantastic work on Skyfall and deserve a lot of recognition and praise for it.
I can't wait to get the blu ray.

Oh and I felt the movie "stole" much more from Uncharted than TDK

The plan was to have him in the role of Kincade but Mendes felt it would take away from Craig's Bond. Essentially, as someone said earlier, it would take you out of the movie. None of the filmmakers reached out to Connery at anytime. It was a thought that died.

I know, anecdotal, but it's not a conclusion people are coming to because of some article. It's a conclusion they're coming to because it's in the movie.

I have a friend who is not that excited to see this....and he's a movie guy. That shocks me first of all, but I did tell him it's Bond's TDK and hopefully that'll get him to see it faster.

You can stick your fingers in your ears and say "la la la" all you want, but there's a reason so many people are noticing similarities. Took a buddy of mine to see it last night, and with no prompting about it from me, the moment the film ended, he turned to me and said, "Man, that was SO Dark Knight!"
I know, anecdotal, but it's not a conclusion people are coming to because of some article. It's a conclusion they're coming to because it's in the movie.

Personally, I saw the Straw Dogs remake before the Dustin Hoffman original and liked the remake a little bit more.

I can't believe Hollywood hasn't done some poll on how the public hates that T & O look. Or maybe it has and they like it. I didn't notice it in SKY FALL like I have in the past so maybe after 12 years of this shit I have gotten used to it.
