I never thought of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo as a Narnia rip-off, but hey, whatever works.

Connery would have stayed for the right pay and if made a partner.
Maybe Craig doesn't want to exit Bond with a lousy Bond movie.
He's batting a .1000 so far.

Chronicles of Sweden: The Misogynist, The Rapist and The Torturer was quality. Dude was all about his dark materials.

Craig doesn't want to be Bond because of the typecasting associated with it. Or maybe something else.

Not true at all. Connery got a record salary for agreeing to return in Diamonds Are Forever, which he in turn donated entirely to charity and bailed from the franchise immediately afterward. He was done with Bond (until NSNA, and that was without the Broccolis)

It's on record that Connery didn't like that the Bond movies took time away from doing other movies. During filming of YOLT while in Japan the media and fan frenzy drove him nuts. Now put yourself in Connery's position if you are unable to do other movies because of the Bond schedule. What if they offered to make him the highest paid actor for every Bond movie he did just like he was paid in DAF?

Now in Roger Moore's bio Connery was pissed at Cubby Boccoli even after years having not made a official Bond movie.
In 1979 Connery was to start on the THUNDERBALL remake just 8 years after he quit Bond. Of course finally in 1983 the remake was made.
So in my opinion Connery wanted to be paid well for a movie that made a lot of money.

Were Shaft and Bond African-American and Caucasian in the respective source novels?

Probably, yes.

Wow. I guess the actors would prefer not to be typecast and all, but still, you're playing one of the most iconic roles in the world and probably getting a pretty damn sizable salary, he sounds pretty bitter about it.

Northern Lights. Or The Golden Compass, as it's know in the US for some damn reasons. I didn't see the movie, I read the books. Pullman's vicious vendetta against religion gets old, but a lot of the storytelling and ideas are pretty intelligent and cool.

I didn't know he donated it to charity, I think that's cool, I respect him for that.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! I hate to disagree with my namesake, but I can't let this pass. Goldfinger was working with the Red Chinese. There's no mention of SPECTRE in the movie. I am quite certain.

(I am also certain that James Bond is a white British male.)

James Bond is a title! Skyfall just explored the past of the new blonde bloke.

It reminded me of The Dark Knight because it was too long and fell apart in the third act.

Just saw this and I have to say I was totally underwhelmed. It had a lot of great ingredients but I think the lack of very good Bond films as of recently has overinflated opinions of this film.

In some ways Quantum of Solace was a better Bond film and yet in other ways, this was top-notch. My only fear is that the success is used as validation as opposed to a challenge to be better.

It was alright, entertaining enough time killer but nothing really memorable or special. They definitely used The Dark Knight as their template, kind of too closely, until it turned into Home Alone.

Casino Royale is still the best of the Craig Bond flicks, but at least the quality is higher than most of the Brosnan flicks. Kudos to them doing two prequels and a sequel.

Just caught the movie on Blu-Ray. I would give it a C or C+. It is a good as a generic action film but in my opinion didn't live up to the Bond expectations.

And what was it with so little of the Bond Girls in this film? Sure, there were two gorgeous girls, but no real steamy scenes like you normally see in Bond films.

And hats off to Javier Bardem, another great performance. Reminded me a lot of John Malkovich in "In the Line of Fire".
