Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015, Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fisher

All we know so far is that it'll be a Disney film and George Lucas will be on board as consultant.

Anyone thinking this film is going to be worth a shit is delusional. I have no interest. There's been enough movies. Leave it alone. Who am I kidding. Disney is going to bleed Star Wars until there is nothing left to bleed.

This can only mean good things AFAIC (as long as it's not animated).

haha. what? The Clone Wars cartoon has proven that the franchise needs other hands more directly involved.

Wow. Incredible to believe but I always saw the SW films as indie projects. I wonder if that feeling will be gone with these new films.

STAR WARS VII in 3 years means:

A quick job.

Just adapt the Timothy Zahn movies, and bam-bam-bam! You've got a new trilogy.

Dude, let the Lucas hate go. This isn't about Lucas or the prequels or his qualities as a director, or lack thereof. If you think in 2015 that Disney is going to make a Star Wars film that can touch the originals, I've got a bridge. It's not going to happen. It's just going to come off cheesy and bad. Let the Star Wars movies be as far as I'm concerned. I might also add an animated TV show isn't comparable to a feature film.

Do you really think Disney of all people pumping out new Star Wars films every 2 years, until it's run into the ground, is a good thing? I don't.

If they go into production sometime around 2013-2014, he will be 72 give or take.

Due to the ages of the original cast that's still alive, I don't know honestly how likely we would see them.

I know he hates the character, but with the right script...who knows? That's assuming that this trilogy takes place years after Return of the Jedi, rather than being a continuation with all the roles recast.

Josh Hutchinson as Luke! Miley Cyrus as Leia! Honey Boo Boo as Wicket!

Another sad thing about this. Although that's minor quibble.

I'd bet none of them would have any desire to be in another Star Wars film.

Just what we want, grumpy old Han Solo.

As far as running Star Wars into the ground, too late! That happened in 1999.

I just finished rewatching the original trilogy for the first time in 10 years, so I'm probably more excited for this than I would be otherwise.

There's a good chance that it'll suck, but I'll still hold out some hope. I'd like to think that Disney will view this as a major flagship title and that they'll put some real talent behind it (directing, acting, and writing wise.)

That will pale in comparison to what is about to happen. It's not just the quality of a movie, it beating people over the head with movie after movie after movie until there is no interest or money to be garnered from the franchise. When Disney is through with it, it will be like trying to get blood from a stone.

Maybe it's just me, but the movies should be left as is, and let Star Wars stand on it's own. More Star Wars film just doesn't sound like a good idea, especially when we're going to get them every 2-3 years until they no longer make any money.

I'm not believing this yet. New SW films (episodes, not cartoons) would be a big deal, and I don't think they would just mention it as a footnote in some business announcement.

It can't possibly be any worse than Episode 1 and Episode 2. As long as it is true that Lucas will only be involved as a consultant, and he is kept far away from writing and directing, I have no problem with this.

Exciting to have new life in the franchise. Disney is just so dominating now.

My first thought on the disney deal - "Finally! The OOT on blu-ray AND iTunes!"

I can't imagine a director worth his salt would touch this franchise, considering the baggage and creating a film that has to live up to the originals, at least in Star Wars fans minds.

Oh, I just got it: it will feature Ahsoka Tano, Anakin's apprentice from the Clone Wars series. She goes into hiding during the Clone wars and comes out of hiding some years after the Battle of Endor.

Lucas has already run Star Wars into the ground. It's not just the movies, but the endless merchandising and licensing. There's a Star Wars product of virtually anything. There is pretty much no way it can get worse.

As far as a movie every 2-3 years, so what? At this point the standard they have to live up to is pretty low.
