Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015, D: Abrams, S: The casts of Star Trek, Lost, Felicit
Since Star Wars' box office was pushed up by people seeing it multiple times, you can't say that Empire's decline was because fewer people saw it, or because they were less inclined to see it two or three times.

I can't say definitively it was one or the other, but it'd have to be some combination of the two (either less people saw it, or some people saw it less times, or both).

Looks like JJ Abrams, who is so secretive he probably still won’t admit to having directed the first two Star Trek movies, is finally going to have to divulge his cast for the revamp of Star Wars. The force is with him, in that he’s got a big table read tomorrow with the cast in London, and so he’s finally going to be forced to fess up shortly. There have been more rumors on this one than any film in recent memory, and here’s the latest.
I’m hearing that Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac is in line for a major role, as is Adam Driver and Attack the Block’s John Boyega, both of whom have been rumored. There is also a young girl, and that might be Maisie Richardson-Sellers, an Oxford-trained actress whose casting has been rumored in recent weeks. The new cast members will join returning Star Wars alums Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. The big surprise, I’m told, is that Ford has a gigantic role in the first of the next three films. Disney hasn’t been commenting on any of this, and today’s no different. Stay tuned

Smart of them to pump up Han at the expense of the others. He's the only one who's had a career worth a damn since Jedi (commercially that is, Hamill's done tons of great voice work and Fisher had a bit of a resurgence with Postcards From The Edge). He's also likely the only one to command a movie star salary at this point, so why not use him as much as they can?

I'm OK with everything in that deadline report. Love what I'm reading so far... 30+ years after I watched the end credits of Return of the Jedi as an 11-year-old, I'm finally going to see these characters on screen again. I've been waiting a long time for this.

I'm getting that same excitement! It was cool to anticipate the prequels (until TPM came out), but there's something different about moving the story forward with these characters that feels more exciting.

I hope they do because there's a jerk on Facebook that I would love to rub it in his face. I said last year there's a chance Han dies in the new one, and he pretty much called me an idiot. I even posted video proof that Ford wanted Han to die, but he totally disregarded it, haha

They're going to kill off Han so he can appear as a ghost in Ghostbusters III.

Maybe that was part of Ford's agreement... it would heighten the stakes quite a bit for the series going forward. I'm sure Hamill will be on board for as many as they want him for... and the great thing is whenever they kill him off he'll still be a force ghost, lol.

IIRC wasn't Han set to die in Jedi before Lucas decided to make it more kid friendly?

I know it was a long shot but I was really hoping Josh Holloway was gonna be a part of the new trilogy. He always reminded me of Han Solo when he was on Lost. It'd be cool to see him in it.

I don't know if it was to be kid-friendly, but yeah Lucas overruled him...and I'd have to agree - the idea behind the film(s) to begin with was the weekly tv shows where the heroes lived on to fight another day. Empire became a little more dramatic, and you can certainly argue Jedi would've been better if it went even further... but it would've killed the fun of the series too imo. At least now if Han has to go out in a blaze of glory, he's lived a full life.

I'd be OK if Han dies in Ep7, if done right. I wouldn't have wanted him to die in ROTJ right afrer they rescue him from the carbonite.
Hamill with a beard would be interesting.

The Deadline article is the first time I've heard Oscar Isaac's name brought up. He might be too old to be a Solo, but I can kind of see it. It seems every other actor who hasn't been ruled out for a hero role is either black or multi-racial. I know adoption is always a possibly, but I'm starting to doubt that Han and Leia will have any children in this movie.

So, does nobody give a fuck about Billy Dee Williams in Episode 7? Was he not asked back?

Yes, I realize how sad that statement sounds.
