1) They need to name a writer ASAP

2) They need to hire a director ASAP

3) They need to start pre-production ASAP and scout locations. Episode 1 was shot on location in Tunisia.

I think they need to start filming by middle to late 2013 at the latest. You figure they need most of 2014 for post production/special effects and re-shoots.

I bet McG or Brett Ratner are having their agents calling Disney this very moment.

Clearly, as history as shown us, Lucas has these things thought out many, many years in advance. I'm sure it'll go great!

Please, no more. The whole point was to tell the story of Anakin Skywalker, which was halfway satisfactory IMO.

All that gives me hope is that he is letting others do it and not himself.

I'm coming out of semi-retirement to say that this news rocks the casbah. The Creator (as some people call him on this Board) cashed out. Let's get some new blood into this franchise. I don't care if the ultimate product ultimately sucks, new blood is what Star Wars needed. I wonder if they will release the OOT in Blu Ray. I bet GL included in a provision in the sale that the OOT can never be released, as a final "F U"

Disney, let the raping begin. And I mean that in a good way.

According to the video on SW.com Lucas handed over story treatments for 7, 8 and 9. The question is will they use them or not.

We’re going to concentrate on the Star wars franchise. What we’re buying… is a pretty extensive & detailed treatment for the next 3 movies

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015, D: Unknown, S: Unknown)

Remember when speculation about eps 7-9 would come up, and some people swore up and down that they would never happen, that Lucas was done with it, that it was always going to be six episodes...

...and now we learn that Lucasfilm had treatments for 7-9.

Glad I'm not the only one that feels that way. There is absolutely no point except as a cash grab.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015, D: Unknown, S: Unknown)

Great news. I for one am sick of 1-6 mythology and Skywalker family. There has to be more in that universe to make stories out of. And does anyone else have a feeling Disney will open a new park for Star Wars? I always thought it would be cool to go to a Star Wars themed amusement park.

Toys. Merchandising. Video games. The movies have always just been promotion for the toy/merchandising empire. ILM also must be a cash cow.

I could see them getting JJ Abrams to do for Star Wars what he did for Star Trek. I'd personally be more interested in seeing someone like Fincher, but as long as Lucas is still involved you'll see someone safe.
