Some people are now speculating that perhaps Boyega's character will be the son of Han and Sana.

So which is the worse retcon? Greedo shooting first or Han having a previously unknown wife? Awaiting the "Disney raped my childhood" complaints in 3... 2... 1...

Boyega is pretty dark skinned. Tough sell that he's a mulatto.

Apparently this will be canon because Disney has said that all the books and comics are going to be part of their new canon.
Spoiler:
Not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand I don't think its a terrible retcon to say that Han previously had a wife. That sort of would make sense to me that a guy like him would have been with someone prior to Leia. I don't know how I like the idea of that potentially being a way to explain one of the new characters. Him and Leia having a kid together makes a lot more sense and would work really well into the new film. I trust the judgement of Disney and Abrams at this point so I guess we'll have to see how this pans out.

Perhaps one of the spinoff movies is of them on Jerry Springer?

I'm absolutely fine with this.

Spoiler:
It just fortifies the idea that Han was a dick before he met Leia. She changes his life and made him want to fight for something more than just himself.

Greedo shooting first is a worse crime IMO.

If I was married I would spend my time flying from one end of the galaxy to the other smuggling too.

In the new Star Trek they blew up Vulcan and had Spock and Uhura together so why not just pull some shit out of nowhere for Star Wars?

It undoes the Greedo pussification. Turns Han back into the scoundrel he originally was.

Lando lost the Falcon to Han in a game of poker and he made him take his wife in double or nothing?

Spoiler:
That makes sense. Han was definitely a dick in A New Hope. The only reason he even bothered to rescue Leia was for the reward money.

Boyega is too young to be the son of Han and his previous wife though. The Force Awakens takes place 30 years after Return of the Jedi. Boyega's character I would assume is early 20s like he is in real life. That would mean he was born after ROTJ. If he is the son of Han and the previous wife, then that would likely mean they got back together and Han and Leia never got together, and that seems unlikely.

Maybe Boyega is the son of Lando and Leia... Leia got revenge after finding out about Han's previous wife...

I know I haven't seen the new new film but with speculation like this I am just glad I got the Despecialized OT on disc so I can wash my hands of the entire prequels and sequels if I must.

Yeah honestly this doesn't bother me too much. The reason I hate the changes made by Lucas so much is because he inserted things into the original films that weren't there to begin with. On top of that the fact that he refuses to even offer the originals to people who want them is irritating.

Changes made after the fact that change some of the background to characters or whatever while slightly irritating just because they can feel shoehorned in aren't as big of a deal to me. The rationale about the character's growth through the series in your post makes a lot of sense to me.

When is that comic coming out?

I'm fine with the past wife thing. Han was about 15 years older than Leia, and it was probably part of some kind of scheme. Like say he married her just so he could be a citizen of this planet and get more docking permits or whatever.

Maybe Han and Leia are inter-galactic swingers

Zero problems with this. They don't need to be tied down by the constraints of stories that the vast majority of the audience has never read. I'm sorry if you loved the EU, but it was never real canon. Any time they want to override something EU in the past, they have.

Star Wars and Darth Vader are ongoing. Princess Leia, Kanan: The Last Padawan and the upcoming Lando are all miniseries.

I really like the Darth Vader comic. The Star Wars one, not so much.
