Seriously, did we watch the same film? Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is absolutely fan-fucking-tastic. I like Serkis and he's proven to do a good job with motion capture stuff. I don't care for the name of his character though.

Rise has the cliche girlfriend that matters fuck all to the plot, evil businessman, cliche goons and warden, weak story, telegraphed stupid nurse guy who doesn't say anything immediately when he gets contaminated but still doesn't get immediately checked, Same dude goes sick for some time.... nobody really questions it, most of the CGI environments (the ape prison mostly) looked bad... while Caesar and apes looked great, shitty neighbor dude that gets his comeuppance, etc etc etc.

Dawn was a great film aside from the humans being underdeveloped. They were alright. The Ape civilization was fucking great.

Question: Why was Judy Greer cast as Cornelia? Did she want to try out some MoCap or something? She wasn't bad, mostly cuz the character didn't do much, but it was odd to cast her for a role that nobody would know of her being in. Unlike Serkis...

-------

On topic, has anyone asked the Abrams or whomever if the Stormtroopers became better shots?

I really liked Rise of the Planet of the Apes for what it was and found it a great reboot to a franchise that was all but dead. The sequel focusing on the apes was a lot cooler to me though. I was actually glad that the human characters weren't really the main focus of the film.

Yeah. That's actually an inspired idea for big studio films. Now wouldn't it be cool if you know... the Transformers became the leads of their films? No, you know why? Cuz Michael Bay isn't that type of guy.

Speaking of Planet of the Apes, but does anyone else get confused which was the first movie and which was the sequel? Rise and Dawn sound so similar that I can never remember which is which, so I always have to google it.

I can see how the titles can be somewhat confusing given that they just change out the first word. The third film will be doing the same and is set to be called War of the Planet of the Apes.

On topic:
Spoiler:
I wonder if Serkis' character is supposed to be the new Emperor of sorts.

That's what I think too.
Spoiler:
The name Supreme Leader Snoke reminds me a lot of the name Grand Admiral Thrawn, so I think they are going to be similar characters.

It's mentioned on the making of...

but found this for U.

But it was her role in Friday’s “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” playing the wife of the primates’ leader, that most made her own marriage happy. Her husband (TV producer Dean Johnsen) is a lifelong “Apes” fan, to the point where the couple’s 2011 wedding was “Apes” themed, complete with a chimp bride and groom cake topper. After 2011’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” came out, her husband appealed to his new wife. “He was like, ‘You have to get a role in the sequel,’ ” Greer says.

The only human female role was taken by Keri Russell, so she asked to be an ape. She went through motion-capture training to learn the part.

“The hardest part probably for me was the physical movements of it,” she says.

But it had its upside: “It’s kind of nice I didn’t have to go through hair and makeup at all.”

Well not to mention that the way they were named is backwards. How does something rise, when it hasn't even dawned yet? Lol

Ebay had a copy of the Ep7 Stormtrooper action figure that leaked early. Ended at $1050!!!!!!! That type of figure retails for $20. Over 52x retail the person paid. They say the Ep7 products will be on the shelf by Sept 4. Just over 3 months from now. I just cannot understand paying 52x retail for something just to have it 3 months early. The guy could have had 52 Stormtroopers for the same amount if he just waited a few months. And you know this person will buy several if he is willing to pay that much.

I liked Rise of the Planet of the Apes a lot. Dawn did not live up to the standard set by that film. Nothing happened in the film. It should have been called Skirmish of the Planet of the Apes.

Rise had heart and action and the viewer felt conflicted about who to favor, the apes or humans. Dawn had bone head villain humans. Rise took its ape characters and put them in situations where something is always happening to them as actual characters. Dawn was just a "two tribes go to war" war movie, and a cliche one at that where there there is no balance between the forces regarding audience sympathy. The humans are dullards (played by weak actors [or in the case of Gary Oldman, barely present]) who do everything wrong and never have our sympathy for a moment. That does not make for compelling action.

Rise was light years better. I'm not sure why audiences like Dawn.

And yes they were titled backward. Shows how much thought went in to Dawn.

Dawn was worth it for the ape dual-wielding machine guns while riding horseback. That was one of the most awesome things I have ever seen in a movie.

You want to talk about the humans? Rise had insanely cliche humans. More than Dawn did. The movie doesn't get any grand period of momentum till Caesar's "No" happens. Before that it's a lot of patches of good and super shitty elements.

Kirk Acevedo from Dawn was more of a cartoon character than anyone in both movies with the exception of maybe Tom Felton in Rise.

A loose figure from Hong Kong? It might as well say "bootleg" in the listing.

Interesting how it's listed as a "rebel stormtrooper."

New rumor that Josh Trank's spin off movie would have been Shadows of the Empire sequel. Seems odd since in the book the villian was killed and it led right up to ROTJ? Maybe the SotE video games?

I don't believe for a second that the directors of these spinoffs have any control over what film they are making. The movie we are getting (reportedly Boba Fett) is the same one that Trank would have made.

But the titles make no sense in that order ... You don't need courage after the battle.

(What thread did I click on?)
