I just realized that Driver is the "OUTER...SPACE!" guy from Inside Llewyn Davis.
That makes me pretty excited that he might be in Star Wars. Unfortunately, I'll probably have that song stuck in my head anytime he's on screen.

Thank you. I agree...he's a pretty good actor, and the best thing on GIRLS. My guess is he might be a secondary villain that Han and Leia's twins have to deal with. He seems a little young to be the 'big bad'.

I think Michael B. Jordan should be Luke. Oh, and Nathan Fillion, who DVD Talk considers the greatest actor in history, should be Han.

Couldn't Fillion play a few roles? He's so diverse and talented I could easily see him as Mon Mothma's daughter, 4-Lom's nephew and Salacious Crumb's next door neighbor.

BTW, this dude is 6' 3" and should cut an imposing figure if he bulks up for the role.

Variety just released the names of five actors who are believed to be at the top of the list for the lead. The article seems to imply these guys are all vying for the same role. Considering two of them are African American, it's safe to assume the new lead is not a Skywalker or a Solo (the article mentions that the Abrams/Kasdan rewrites have reportedly reduced the offspring down to supporting characters).
http://variety.com/2014/film/news/st...-4-1201125355/
1. Ed Speleers, 25 (Eragon, Downton Abbey)
2. John Boyega, 21 (Attack the Block)
3. The previously rumored Jesse Plemons, 25 (Breaking Bad)
4. Matthew James Thomas, 26 (Billy Elliot, currently starring in Pippin on Broadway)
5. Ray Fisher (stage actor)
The article also states that their sources believe the delay in casting "has to do whether execs and creatives want someone of a different ethnicity from the previous Caucasian leads. Abrams has said on numerous occasions that he wants to have a diversified cast".

Well I'm glad to hear that the focus isn't on offspring of the original characters.

I have noticed J.J. seems to be cherry-picking actors from trendy television shows to audition (Girls, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey). I'm surprised we've yet to hear about Walking Dead/Game of Thrones/Sons of Anarchy actors being linked to this project.

He's doing the youngster route ala trek style cast. They want to secure the $ so forget about copying ot/pt, this is copying what worked for him.

This movie has the same casting director as Game of Thrones, so I thought we'd see some of the actors pop up in this. Maybe for supporting roles. Jorah Mormont would be an awesome Jedi.

If they're scoping out popular TV shows for talent, might I suggest Olivia Cooke from Bates Motel? I think she'd be perfect as Leia's daughter.
Also, I watched "John Dies at the End" the other night and got the notion that Rob Mayes would make a decent junior Solo. The guy plays a good wise-ass.

Both The Hollywood Reporter and Latino Review are reporting Lupita Nyongo'o (who just won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for 12 Years a Slave) has met with Abrams about Episode VII:
