Bob Iger and George Lucas on camera talking about the deal.

Lucas basically said he's retiring and the money is his retirement fund. But, he and Kathleen Kennedy are working on Star Wars 7, 8, 9.

My guess is that George put a clause into the contract saying that the OOT can never be released. Not a big deal for Disney in the long run, since they can release the abort- er special special special editions. My understanding is that George got ownership of A New Hope in the deal for distribution rights to ESB and ROTJ.

I don't think Lucas really put in a clause about no OOT.

He took a jab at Fox in one of the SW.com videos, mentioning that when he first made SW it should have been a Disney movie.

And apparently Fox has lost all rights to Star Wars.

I wonder if the TV show is still progressing of it's dead, now that there will be a movie every few years. If Disney were smart, they'd do the same thing they are with the Avengers. TV show to tie stuff together between movies.

100% agree. I know Disney can beat a horse to death, but nobody has done this as well as Lucas. Star Wars is EVERYWHERE and has been a giant cash grab for years. Shit, it's now an Angry Birds game. Hopefully a new take on the franchise can be a positive thing. Both versions of the Clone Wars cartoons (animated shorts and CGI) have been pretty decent. In fact, there have been some episodes of the Clone Wars (CGI version) that are every bit as good the OOT.

And it's already part of Disney's park in Orlando. My brother is there with his son and sent me pics of a life size AT-AT, him riding a speeder bike, and a giant ewok village. I thought it looked pretty damn cool.

Even if the film is mediocre, I look forward to taking my son to see this in the theater.

Yeah, I wonder what this means for the Clone Wars animated series, if it will continue or not. Also Lucas was supposedly working on a live action TV series set between Episodes III and IV.

And also what does this mean for Dark Horse Comics? Dark Horse has had the license to make Star Wars comics since the mid 1990s. Are they going to lose that license now?

I think is pretty much a foregone conclusion that the comics rights will go to Marvel once the licensing agreement with Dark Horse expires. It sucks since I enjoyed the Dark Horse comics.

I believe the TV show is coming soon since they have found a network: ABC

My mind is literally blown here. I am thrilled to see someone else take a chance with the mythology.

Yes. Now there's no need to guess. It will be coming to ABC.

Heck, I thought Tron: Legacy and John Carter were both better Star Wars movies than any of the prequels.

Re: Disney buys LucasFilm for $4B in cash & stock

Lucas destroyed my interest in Star Wars with the special editions. The prequels just confirmed it.

In my eyes, the only thing Disney can do right, right now, is to give the original trilogy a proper NON-SPECIAL-EDITION BluRay release.

Oh, and don't let Lucas ANY WHERE NEAR the Marvel properties.

They could say jar-Jar Binks is offensive to blacks like SONG OF THE SOUTH.

Lucas looks heartbroken in those clips. Kinda sad.
