Glad there's more people that don't think Kid Blue was Abe. Where were you guys last week when shit got real on this board?

I respect your opinion, Tarantino, but you can't say there was NOTHING to support that theory. Plenty of reasons have been already given on this board.

Re: Looper (Johnson, 2012) — The Reviews Thread
I asked Rian Johnson directly when he was present at a screening last week. He said he thinks it's cool people are coming up with their own theories, but that wasn't his intention.

I love film analysis as much as the next cinephile but I didn't see anything to support the theory and moreso, what point would there have been? Off the top of my head, I can't think of any way it would've changed the dynamic of the characters, the story or how we felt about the characters. It would've just been one of those "oh neat" things.
On another note, Noah Segan was really good. I didn't realize he played Dode in Brick and was also in The Brother's Bloom. I think he's due for a starring role. Also, side note, while I was watching the film, I thought his character was played by the actor who plays Theon on Game of Thrones -- especially since he played nearly the same character.

Well, I hadn't seen it yet.

Yes, I put random people on ignore. I'm hoping your name comes up randomly someday.
P.S.- Gonna have to choke filmerp AND Rian Johnson. Although he still didn't say "No, they're not the same." so whatever, fuck off. Rian also says he's cool with those who think they're the same so, double fuck off.

Uh yeah, OK.
Anyway, this movie was entertaining and stylish, but the plot was really stupid. Obviously it wasn't really even meant to stand up to even casual examination, but I appreciate that Rian Johnson didn't let logic stand in the way of an entertaining story.
Also, that kid who plays Cid does them crazy eyes real good. I had no clue Damien was going to be in this movie...
So because I can't leave well enough alone, here are just a few of the reasons why this movie makes no sense (SPOILERS—duh):
Anyway, I could go on. But like Bruce Willis said, don't think about it too hard (because it will just annoy you).

So because I can't leave well enough alone, here are just a few of the reasons why this movie makes no sense (SPOILERS—duh):
- In the future they construct an elaborate scheme to send people back in time and have people in the past kill them and dispose of the bodies. OK, let's accept that the mob doesn't already own the police in the present (2042). Apparently Eliot Ness shows up to clean up, like, Wichita or wherever, so the mob can't just buy off the cops.
- But... why don't they just kill them, then send the bodies back in time? The problem was disposing of the bodies, not killing them, right?
- When a looper's time is up, their future self is sent back in time for their past selves to kill them. Because they don't want "loose ends". So they let these loose ends live out the rest of their lives (30 years) in peace before kidnapping them and sending them back to be killed? This is not an effective policy.
- Let's say that they do, in fact, wish to do this. Why don't they send the future selves to other loopers—mix and match so no one has to kill their future self? Let them know after the fact that they've been released from their contract and give them their retirement bonus.
- At the end of the movie we see Young Joe commit suicide to stop Old Joe from killing Cid. Old Joe disappears. But wait, earlier in the movie we see Joe's friend Seth get brutally dismembered in order to get his older self to turn himself in. Why not just kill Young Seth? By its own logic, wouldn't Old Seth disappear, too?
- Not to mention how colossally stupid the idea of a permanent wound taking effect "suddenly" on an older version of someone is. Remember how a hideously deformed Old Seth showed up in front of Young Seth and then hobbled away on his legless stumps and fingerless hands?
- Of course, the central problem with the movie is the fact that the entire plot depends on an evil Rainmaker closing the loops—a Rainmaker created by Old Joe in 2042. Old Joe killed his older self 30 years prior (unlike Young Joe, who did not), and so there should be no movie because tying Joe to the Rainmaker in any way makes no sense whatsoever.
Anyway, I could go on. But like Bruce Willis said, don't think about it too hard (because it will just annoy you).

You brought up some good points. One of the issues I had was with the Rainmaker closing the loops. First thing I thought of was, what's wrong with the Rainmaker killing all these hitmen? He's killing the low level scumbags -- including our hero Young Joe. Never once did they mention if the Rainmaker had killed any innocent people. So, right there I wasn't really emotionally vested.
