My local Drafthouse is converting to digital. That just feels....wrong.
I dunno, on the one hand, maybe better PQ and sound. But part of the experience is the dingy second hand prints. The place isn't the best, seats are okay, food is expensive, but it has good qualities.
But I guess even the Alamo probably converted at some point, since they had Hobbit 48 FPS footage or something a while back. |

All movie theaters are or will be, if they want to show new and future releases.

Ah, film. I remember it well...and miss it dearly.

I don't miss it, while there are some instance I prefer film, I rarely get out during the first week anymore and paying $14 for worn out prints is frustrating.

I've come to accept the slight jitter in the titles, the crackle of the speakers at reel changes, the lines dancing across the print are a thing of the past.
These were all imperfections, but something about them made going to see an old movie so beautiful. This new digital is so clean and perfect, I still feel like I'm watching TV instead of sitting in a theater. But I predict the new generation of indie filmmakers will recall the scratchy prints from their childhood, and will start releasing more movies (like Grindhouse did) that optically added scratches and spots to look like a film reel. |

I've never had a horrible digital presentation so I suppose I can't comment on that.
I prefer older films on film, but anything new I prefer pristine. A silly double standard but it's my silly double standard. |
