you're so goddamn ignorant. I'm an atheist..and I don't give a shit about religious symbolism/themes. All I care about is whether it's actually a good movie or not. A good number of films I've seen and like have such material in them. It's not what it's fucking about..it's about how it's fucking done. That is what is important.

Re: Cool Hand Luke
It religiously symbolized the death of Jesus Christ and just regularly symbolized the end of Jim Caviezals career.

Re: Cool Hand Luke
riiiiiiiiiiight.
I did like The Passion. I actually had to google that cuz I've somehow never have heard of it called that. A little bit too dramatic but...I'm alright w/ it. I also like The Last Temptation of Christ..a much better film. Maybe not about el Jesus but...a better film in general. |
Re: Cool Hand Luke
I'm not a big believer but I still love Cool Hand Luke. I have been known in times of crisis to speak to a "God", to help me get through this or help someone I know get through that, yada, yada, yada, but at the end of the day, I just don't believe. I related to Luke through his talking to God because I've often been pissed off at circumstances I've been through and shit, I had to unload on someone I suppose. I think the Luke as Christ figure is neat but its not one I subscribe to. But it's great because I love to hear the different theories on a movie's subtext. It's one of the reasons why I love movies. It'd be nice to not judge us non believers and think that we couldn't enjoy a movie with religious themes, wmlopez. We may be baby killers but I'll watch a movie with Jesus getting the shit beat out of him, no problem.;)

I believe that the enjoyment of a movie or any story is when the background is revealed. CHL and BH are like that. I saw CHL, excellent movie, but reading about if and the symbolism elevated he experience upon a second viewing. I am a huge fan of BH, been watching it since I was a kid. Now as an adult, and after reading or listening to Gore Vidal about the homosexual subtext. Now the experience of watching BH is not diminished, but, I'm now seeing it whenever masala is in the scene. Just my opinion, I await the F-bombing...;) |
Re: Cool Hand Luke
My favorite film ever.

Re: Cool Hand Luke
Yeah, enjoyment of a film having Christ analogies has nothing to do with being personally religious. It has to do with being intelligent, curious, and having an interest in film. I enjoyed learning about how O Brother, Were Art Thou? was a modern day version of Homer's Odyssey, even if I don't believe in the ancient Greek gods and monsters.

Re: Cool Hand Luke
Isn't the BD a weak transfer? I remember some aspect of it being weak.
