Re: What do you this think of Scarface (1983)
You can find out by reading the Bible and the story of Satan to see what is ignorant. In today's world you know they are ignorant when their defense is calling you racist. When what they do is talk loud accusing others on racism, but they in turn do that against the white race. They see money as the way to get power. They live for today's world and only among their own kind do they admit their failure. But no other race can tell them they are in the wrong for they will be called racist. So you look at how they live and how they wind up and then you compare their kind to how you live. Then you know who is ignorant.

Something tells me you wouldn't have the balls to say this to the face of the people you are making fun of.
The amount of racism/stereotyping in this post is pretty predictable given this boards views on race sometimes. Our great moderator, Suprmallet, will be right there to moderate all this activity. I'm sure of it.

But, I would have no problem saying it to Sisqo, aka Mr. Thong Song, who pretty much said the same thing on one of the episodes.
My post was neither racist or stereotypical. It was actually pretty accurate so you might want to hold off on the labeling the next time.
Of course, I could be totally wrong, and all rappers actually have college degrees with no criminal records.

You're right, because most rappers would pull out a gun and said I "dis-respected" them and the only way to deal with that is a bullet to da head. Cuz it's a dangerous world in the rap game.

Saw it opening night in 1983, in Miami -- well, Pinecrest, whatever. Same difference. Was 12 years old. Loved it then, loved it when I saw it again on cable, I still think it's a really good movie but it's overlong and it has unfortunately been co-opted by Mental Fucking Midgets as presenting a lifestyle/attitude to applaud and emulate.
At least Rocky Ecchevaria gave us the tongue-waggle that in turn gave us Phil Hendrie's Rudy Canoza...

This thread has turned into EXACTLY what I would have expected from a Scarface discussion thread. Thanks everyone!

I used to like Wall Street until investment bankers started worshipping Gordon Gekko.
Oliver Stone you should be ashamed of yourself you are a bad influence on the American public first you wrote Scarface and now this.

What? If any criticism can be leveled at the guy it's that he focuses too much on the visual "show off" stuff and doesn't focus enough on character. He's probably the most visually impressive filmmaker of his generation.

First, it seems like you disagree with bootsy accusing others of being racist. Now, he's telling it like it is. You're like Lennie from "Of Mice and Men". It's hard to stay mad at you.

Er. no. De Palma has never been a visually impressive filmmaker.
He is the master of the set-piece, though, and knows how to create suspense like few directors can. Most of his films are garbage, but the guy can create suspense in ways that would make Hitchcock shit his Depends.

I agree with Mabuse, DePalma has been a visually impressive filmmaker; the climax in Blow Out was incredible in the visual department. The night club in Scarface with all of the mirrors took technical know-how to make it work visually. Then there is the constant use of the dual-focus shot which he perfected over the years.
As to Scarface, it is still one of my favorite movies; I appreciate it as a film but also as to how real it was of the time. People were complaining about how outlandish it was and yet the cocaine empire that was depicted in all of it's subtleties were accurate to real life.
My only wish was that it was longer and feature more that was in the screenplay, stuff like two nuns trying to smuggle coke in an airport or the whole Gaspar Gomez and The Diaz Brothers angle.

De Palma's most important contributions to contemporary cinema lie in his inventive, visually dynamic style.
He frequently employs such techniques as the stalking, searching camera; the "God's eye" point of view; and an expressively detailed mise-en-scéne.
A master of rhythmic editing, he often opens his films with an extended, viscerally composed sequence.
The now-classic prom sequence in Carrie, with its use of the split screen, slow-motion and cross cutting, typifies the rich versatility of De Palma's craft.
