The Bay (found-footage horror film from the director of Rain Man, Diner)
"The quaint seaside town of Chesapeake Bay thrives on water; it is the lifeblood of the community. When two biological researchers from France find a staggering level of toxicity in the water, they attempt to alert the mayor, but he refuses to create a panic in the docile town. As a result, a deadly plague is unleashed, turning the people of Chesapeake Bay into hosts for a mutant breed of parasites that take control of their minds, and eventually their bodies. A brutal and harrowing creature feature for the 21st century, THE BAY chronicles the descent of a small town into absolute terror."

You go, Barry Levinson. I like the trailer, and as a fan of both found-footage movies and the Chesapeake Bay, I look forward to seeing this.

You had me at "found footage horror film". I'm such a sucker for those. This one looks good.

I hope somebody recuts that trailer, changes the music a little, and emphasizes "From the director of Toys and Envy"
The guy getting these super low budget movies financed seems to be have a pretty steady stream of successes, cheap as hell too -- started with Paranormal Activity ($15,000 budget, $193m ww gross), went on to Insidious ($1.5m budget, $97m ww gross), and now up to the big boys with The Bay ($2m budget). Kind of cool.
...as well as PA2 and PA3 which had much higher budgets ($3m and $5m respectively).

After reading all the raves, i was underwhelmed by Insidious. Actually hated it. I like Barry Levinson though, so this gives me hope this will be good.

I like the fact that the footage is culled from multiple sources, that's part of what made Chronicle so good to me.

So it's the found footage version of Contagion? Got it.
I'm surprised Lionsgate is going the VOD route with this and two weeks after Paranormal Activity 4 releases. So fucking stupid.

I'm really tired of all this found footage stuff. Also, why are they releasing it a few days after Halloween as opposed to the weekend before?

I'm a sucker for even mediocre horror movies, but I am scared of the "from the producers of ____" tagline. Usually, that seems to be code for "this movie is a piece of shit"

They couldn't even bother to highlight the one suspense film in Levinson's wheel well, SPHERE?
...probably a wise choice.

The use of the "parasite that controls the host" is such a cheap cop-out. If they used the parasites themselves and the only "host" issue being spontaneous combustions ala Cloverfield, it would have been better IMO.

I'm not sick of found footage yet even though I have seen more bad than good, but this looks interesting. I'll give it a shot

PSA! The Bay is now available on VOD apparently. I haven't confirmed but I read a review that mentioned it. Might have to plunk down for it.

No zombies in this, trailer is misleading.
Anyway I saw it tonight and liked it! It's as good as any found footage film that has come out in the last few years (OK, so that's not saying much).
I found the plot intriguing and the use of found footage worked well for the story. The premise is very topical.
I thought the gore effects were really well done. The mutilated corpses looked great.
Give this one a chance if you're on the fence. I recommend it
