God of War movie planned

Dark horizons

Never played the game but looks cool what I have seen of it. This movie could be something special if they go for the hard R rating.

This has the potential to be a great fantasy film, if done right.

I hear Uwe Boll has been looking for a new videogame franchise.

the game is great, so I hope it is done right. it could turn out to be something really good. I have a feeling they probably will get someone like Vin Diesel to play Kratos.

Spoiler:
the backstory of Kratos is something I'd really like to see done on the big screen. or at least all the info that is shown in the game. scenes in the game where Kratos is so mad with power he kills his own family. then is punished by one of the gods, by forever having the ashes of his family embedded onto his skin. I always thought was cool.

I've heard the game is great. Rest assured the movie won't be, as it sounds like a dumbass concept for a film. Then again, when was the last good movie based on a videogame? Most of them stink as film concepts. I can't remember one.

Hollywood has no shame.

God Of War - Movie

In July, it was announced that Sony Pictures had brought on board Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to write the new screenplay for the studio's God of War movie. In addition to work on the upcoming Pacific Rim, Melton and Dunstan have worked on films in the "Saw" series and the recent Piranha 3DD.

On Thursday, IGN got a chance to ask the duo about the big screen adaptation of the video game series. They told the site that their first step in updating David Self's previous draft of the script was to humanize the main character Kratos more. "In the same way that Batman was grounded with Christopher Nolan's rendition, we were attempting to do that with Kratos so that when we meet him -- like they're doing in this newest game, which is sort of a prequel to the original -- we're seeing him before he became the Ghost of Sparta, when he was just a Spartan warrior and he had family and kids."

They added that "In the game... there's that attack from the barbarians and Kratos has to call upon Ares to help him. Really, that's going to be our first act break. Before then, he's going to be mortal, and he's going to have his family. We're going to learn about him and understand how he operates. So it's potentially 30 minutes -- give or take -- of building up this character so that, when he does turn and becomes the Ghost of Sparta, we understand him as a human and we understand the journey that he's going to take. We're emotionally invested, so that it could go beyond just this one movie."

They will also be making the villain, Ares, a more proactive villain in the movie. "In the game, you know, he's immortal, and he doesn't really do much besides raid Athens... So we're trying to build him up a bit more, too, so that he can become a true villain."

You can check out the full interview by clicking here! A release date has not yet been set for the film.

Re: God Of War - Movie

Let me recommend Dave Batista for Kratos. Heavy acting isn't required for this movie.

Why don't they just spraypaint the Rock white, add that red stripe Kratos has, and call it a day?

I know it would never happen, but I'd prefer this to be an R-rated CGI animated film (hell, we'll be lucky just to get the R). I just don't know if this sort of thing would work well in live action without an insanely massive budget.

It wouldn't be that different from 300.

Don't we essentially already have this with the "______ of the Titans" franchise?

Pretty much. Speaking of, did the second film earn enough for Revenge of the Titans to go into production?

300 is a good movie just so long as you are expecting a comic book movie and not some historical piece that many idiots were expecting.

I like Spartacus on Starz too, and it is pretty much the same thing.

I wasn't expecting a historical epic by any means. The trailer made that perfectly clear. However, after the first action sequence, I found the film to be a complete snooze.

I like the rock but it would remind me so much of Scorpion King.

I would give the part to Vin Diesel

This. Also...as of late? The Rock is a better sale than Diesel. He also has a better voice for Kratos.

Also..he's in ungodly amount of awesome shape all the goddamn time. Just call him, give him the money, he'll be there, have fun, tweet about it, and give us a damn good time.

^ I disagree about the better voice part. Diesel has a more gravely voice. That sounds more like Kratos to me.
