So is it over for Taylor Kitsch?

So three movies that did mediocre at the box office to bombing Battleship, John Carter, and Savages. But what exactly did studios see in him to make him bankable is my question?

You obviously didn't see a little movie called "Wolverine". Taylor's portrayal of the mutant "Gambit" should have landed him an academy award. Duhhhh.

Yeah..I didn't even bother with "Man on a Stupid Ledge". Last one was that horrible Clash sequel.

I like Kitsch. He's fantastic in Friday Night Lights. And John Carter really wasn't as bad as it was made out to be. Didn't see the other two.

Savages was a good enough movie, its problems had nothing to do with Kitsch, but with Oliver Stone as director.

Re: So is it over for Taylor Kitsch?

I thought John Carter was decent too. Sure it was an epic bomb but I thought it was decent and he was fine it in as well. It wasn't his fault it bombed. It wasn't a well known story, had no recognizable stars and had piss poor marketing. Maybe it's his fault he's not recognizable but why was he cast?

Because Stanton is from Pixar, where they cast the right person for the character instead of relying on star power.

Pixar, itself, is the only star power they need. Stanton should probably rethink his casting process.

I saw all three movies, and he's really not to blame in any of those movies. John Carter wasn't bad, the marketing and subsequent bashing it got was what did it in. Battleship was acceptable and he did a good job in Savages.

I thought he was solid in John Carter alongside the fact that Aaron Johnson and him were the only bright spots to the piece of shit known as Savages.

However, as we've already mentioned in numerous box office threads:
  • Studios shouldn't bank on a relatively unknown actor as the lead, especially when two of those three films had budgets exceeding $200 million.
  • Disney should've never allowed Andrew Stanton to control the marketing campaign of John Carter. I'd bet the farm that the only reason Finding Nemo 2 exists is due to Stanton now being in debt to the studio.
  • Peter Berg sucks.
  • Oliver Stone needs to quit filmmaking because he sucks more than Peter Berg.

Wow not the answer I expected...agree with it pretty much expecially the bolded part.

Anyway he should be fine with another TV show or a supporting actor. Unless something he has coming up catches on.

Taylor Kitsch hasn't been able to perform. Time to take him behind the shed and shoot him in the head.

He will always be Tim Riggins. But as for being a lead actor, yes....he's screwed in an Orlando Bloom post Elizabethtown way.

How was John Carter not bad? Its story had potential, obviously, but the screenplay was a fucking mess and Kitsch was lifeless in it. Terrible film.

I actually have not seen Wolverine, it didn't look appealing to me and my friends said it sucked. I did see First Class though.

Finding Nemo too really? They found him, I wonder what more to the story they have to tell. I mean a clown fish's life expectancy is only like seven years.

Personally, I loved it. One of my favorites for the year. Amazing visuals, great story, good lead but, ooh, an awful trailer that made me not want to see it. Glad I did though.

Re: So is it over for Taylor Kitsch?

Orlando Bloom had a career after the 3rd Lord of the Rings?

Edit: Completely forgot he was in the PotC movies. Memorable role.

Re: So is it over for Taylor Kitsch?

John Carter wasn't bad, but it was a little flat, and Kitsch contributed to that with his portrayal of John Carter. In the books, Carter is a very emotional, romantic action hero, but Kitsch played it with the same blandness that seems to be prevalent in a lot of the younger film stars these days.
