Red Dawn - Remake 2012 release

Saw the trailer for the remake of Red Dawn before Total recall. Seems worthy of a matinee. Has Chris Helmsworth in it. I know this has been on a shelf for a few years so it was pre-Thor. The trailer showed the scene similar to the old movie where the girls lure some soldiers after them and guys pop out with guns blazing.

I swear we had a thread regarding this from years ago ...

... and yes, I used the Google search and not the forum search to try and find the original post. ;)

Hopefully this will be as thought provoking as the original masterpiece.

Didn't know this was being made.

The original is dumb but cool. It's politically absurd. But a fun "what if" scenario.

So is it China this time? Or is it still the Ruskies?

And where's the trailer? It's not on Youtube or Google. But it was before Total Recall? Weird.

Clever ploy by MGM using the fake bankruptcy thing to let this thing sit on the shelf until the leads became famous. Now they can market it as the movie starring the guys from "The Avengers" and "The Hunger Games". Very clever indeed.

It was going to be China, but since they have a sizable movie market, the filmmakers changed the baddies to North Korea. Which takes it from plausible to silly.

So yet another group is eliminated from being movie bad guys. Normally it is because we don't want to offend a race. Now its just because we want their money.

I refuse to see any movie in which the white guy is the bad guy. Not cool.

I have no problem with North Korea being the enemy. Especially after seeing the beginning of the game Homefront. Check it out, very cool/creepy.

That's a lot of movies. There are a lot of white guys to hate in movies.

I've never heard of a movie being shelved for 3 years and sucking. It doesn't happen, I mean, why would they release it at all at that point?

(Yeah I'm aware of the MGM fiasco and the fact that Cabin in the Woods was similarly shelved for 3 years)

Yep. But that opening makes a good "what if". I liked the game too.

Dude, Snake, see the original. It rules in an '80s kinda way. And it's got Harry Dean Stanton.

Harry. Dean. Stanton.

This one looks like it might be worth a watch on Netflix.
