Best film directed by Pedro Almodovar

I probably like Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown the best, but I also really enjoyed Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!. I haven't thought very highly of his more recent output (All About My Mother & Talk To Her). Personally, I think his movies are fun and entertaining, but they don't strike me as being anything all that special compared to a lot of people working in film today.

I consider myself a huge Almodovar fan, and like another poster said, I'd watch anything he puts out. For me, he's the most consistently rewarding director in film today. He always manages to come up with something unique.
I voted for "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" but with "Talk to Her" as a very, very close second. I just find "Women on the Verge" so damn watchable... I could watch it over, and over, and over (and I have!). It's just so entertaining and fun. Not a dull moment in the film. "Talk to Her" is by far his most accomplished film though, with his best (and most creative) script, and very well-acted. I think it's the film that kind of fully realizes his talent. I was very happy that year to see the Academy recognize it like they did. It's a wonderful film. I also enjoy "All About My Mother"... there's a couple of very memorable scenes that make me laugh out loud every time I see them.
Some of his work is really "out there"... like "Matador" and "Kika". I still enjoyed them both, though. I'd really love to see "Law of Desire", "Labyrinth of Passion", and "Pepi, Luci, Bom". I also can't wait to see "Bad Education"!!!!!
I should also mention that anybody I know who's wanting to get into foreign films, I will always reccomend them something by Almodovar. Although like any foreign director, his films are often an acquired taste, they are also very entertaining and easy to watch.

As others have said, this is a director on a very short list of directors that I'll watch whatever they put out.
Personally, I love the campy feeling of Atame! (Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!), especially the last scene, where Ricky (a young Antonio Banderas), Marina, and Marina's sister, Lola were riding in the car after Marina chooses to be with Ricky.
Of course, Talk to Her and All About My Mother were extremely good "mainstream" movies (well, as mainstream as Almodovar gets).

Talk to Her has a disturbing subtext which does not make it a good place to start if you haven't seen any of Almodovar's films before. Women on the Verge.... is much better.
Personally I think his best film to date is All About My Mother, but my favorites are Live Evil, Matador, Law of Desire and the rest of the earlier films.
He's really hit his stride since Live Evil. I'm looking forward to Bad Education.

Talk To Her is easily my favorite Almodovar film. Simply a brilliant masterpiece. This is closely followed by Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, All About My Mother, and High Heels.

He's one of my favorite directors and I might be biased but I can't understand the "blah" attitude towards him. I would think that Almodovar movies would have a polarizing effect since they really are a bit quirky and deal with unusual situations. I enjoy his movies because they are original, funny but also touching. The first Almodovar movie I watched was "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" but my favorite is "Tie Me Up!, Tie Me Down"!". Being first exposed to Antonio Banderas from Almodovar movies, I was very disappointed with his "American" film career. Good thing I saw him on Broadway in "Nine" and that made up for all his disappointing choices in the States! My least favorite Almodovar movie would be "Dark Habits". I can't wait to watch "Bad Education". It's on its way from Amazon.co.uk.

I haven't seen enough of his work to vote in the poll. I'll do some homework and get back to this thread.

His greatest film is Volver because it's the only one I've seen. I've been too busy watching comic book movies and blockbusters.

I chose Talk to Her. It's between that and All About My Mother.
I think I've seen all the one's listed except for Pom... and Labyrinth of Passion.
