Yeah, people know Aquaman. They don't respect him and think of him as a joke of a character, but they know him.

Pre-2008, most of my youngest son's friends had never heard of or seen Iron Man before. The second that first trailer hit ("with that awesome song from Guitar Hero"), they HAD to see that movie. Over the weekend, all of them were asking me who this Iron Man person was. Now that I think about it, a few co-workers did the same thing (without the Guitar Hero reference tho).

So yeah. The Sabbath song helped a lot.

Come on guys. Robert Downey Jr is an international superstar. If he hadn't been in the role, nobody would have gone to see it.

That's not what I was saying. People would have seen Iron Man regardless of who the actor was. Its a man in a robot suit kicking ass. People love robots.

JGL is too young, somebody early to mid 40s would be good. I could actually see John Cusack being good as Ant Man.

Ant-Man sounds ridiculous. I'm sure I'll get flamed for that but is there really a market for a character that nobody has heard of?

As long as you make it marketable and appealing to general mass. Yes, it can market well.

Now if only they could make Aquaman cool enough for people to stop giving him shit about how lame he was.

My guess is that both this and Guardians of the Galaxy will heavily emphasize being MARVEL films, THE STUDIO THAT BROUGHT YOU IRON MAN AND AVENGERS.

I'm pretty sure Marvel doesn't expect something like this to be a blockbuster like Avengers or Iron Man, or even make as much as Thor and Captain America anyway. Probably a smaller, lower budget movie that they hope will be a small success while continuing to expand the universe. I would like that idea for a lot of their lesser known characters.

Yep. Have an $80 - $100 million budget and hope for about $175 million - $200 million return.

OR, have a $125M budget for a $1B return on something that clicks with the customer. I get why the movie studios may want to expand the universe but if they plan to jam 150 characters together into Avengers 3 and expect anybody to know wtf is going on, they're mistaken. I've seen all the Xmen films and recall about 4 characters names... and I like to think I'm in touch with my nerdy side moreso than the average person.

Kevin Feige sort of addresses the Paul Rudd/Ant-man rumors:

Paul Rudd's name is out there for Ant-Man. That would be fun if it's true. I have no idea if it's true.

Well, nothing is true yet. I like Paul Rudd, too.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/1...n_4123119.html

Rumor that the front runner to play the wasp is Rashida Jones:

http://www.superheromoviesnews.com/2...medium=twitter

So, the same source that told me about the Paul Rudd thing has contacted me again. I was actually contacted on Monday, but I went through multiple sites and contacted some friends to track down and find out how legit this rumour actually is, so bare with me here. The new rumour that is going around says, that The Wasp WON’T feature in Ant-Man, but Janet Van Dyne WILL. The source says, “Janet will be a love interest and a major supporting character, we would see multiple references to her future as The Wasp throughout the film.” As if this wasn’t enough, the source later told me WHO Marvel and Edgar Wright had in their eyes for the role. It seems that Parks & Recreation star Rashida Jones is on top of Marvel’s shortlist for the role of 'Janet Van Dyne'. Rashida Jones is said to be Marvel’s top pick for her “chemistry with the other actors.” The source highlighted Paul Rudd and Parks & Recreation co-star, Chris Pratt. Paul Rudd and Rashida Jones have starred opposite each other in two films, those films being, I Love You Man & Our Idiot Brother.
Interesting to Note that Paul Rudd and Rashida Jones have a ton of chemistry with each other from previous movies.

Just an aside, but Paul Rudd, who I like, seemingly plays the same guy in every movie. He doesn't seem to have much range, but I think he'd be quite good as HP/Ant-Man if they go in that direction.
