I guess I noticed it before, but it didn't really sink in until now that Drax isn't green. I guess two green skinned aliens is one too many.

He looks brown to me, but the one image isn't really much to go on. Also, I may not be the best judge if it's very slight, as I do have a touch of red/green color blindness.

Crazy. So does that make Predator look like it takes place in the fall or what?

Ok, I can see the green in the bigger picture, with the red body art. In the smaller image it just all ran together for me.

Can anyone recommend a good collection of stories to help one familiarize themselves with this material? Thanks!

Pretty much just Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume 2 from 2008. To get their essence, so to speak.
To get the "backstory" on what led up to their coming together is Marvel's Annilihation: Conquest. The sequel to Annihilation. Conquest featured the GotG members. So I guess that matters too. And to get an understanding of Conquest, I guess that story matters too.
I'd just say GotG from 2008 though.
Don't read the current GotG to "get" them. The Avengers film changed marvel Comics for the worst.

Don't know if this matters or if this was posted before but here is a supposed list of Hasbro GotG offerings for the summer:

Ok. Maybe not the worst. But it did affect how some moves in the comics are now done.
Damn. That's a lot of Rocket Raccoon.

Considering comic sales are in the toilet, showing off the characters in movies is probably the best chance they have to get new readers. New readers= more chance the comic has to keep being published. So Marvel/DC will make the comics more resemble the movie aspects so their new audience will likely stay with it.

Spoiler:
Also, comics adapting things from movies is nothing new at all. The Superman comics adapted the cold sterile Krypton after the Donner movies. The Batman comics adapted the all black suit after the Burton movies. The X-Men comics adapted the black uniforms after the X-Men movies. The Spider-Man comics adapted organic webbing after the Raimi movies. Plus many more...

I misread your original statement. I thought you were saying Avengers was a bad movie. Personally I think the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the best thing Marvel has done since about 1990.

I've never had an issue with a Sammy J. Nick Fury cuz the Ultimate Fury seemed to be different enough from his normal interpretation, the 616, that it was fine to make him black and Samuel Jackson. It was kind of cool for me actually. Now that they're putting in a Sammy J. Nick into the 616? What? And as Nick Fury's son? C'mon, get the fuck out of here. Now we're shoving IM into GotG cuz he's so goddamn popular and amazing to have. Let's have Hawkeye change his costume to resemble the movie too. Though I didn't mind Ultimate Barton's suit originally being like this. Different worlds gave different vibes and made some things more ok than others in a way.
I kind of disagree with that approach. I think the comics need to be the comics and the movies the movies. The movies should draw inspiration from the comic but do something to remain unique for their medium. Sounds like comics are trying to capitalize on the interest generated by the movies and trick new readers into thinking they are reading in movie canon.
I dunno. I kind of hope not. I think that if people saw The Avengers and if we're getting the GotG into a film as well, the big thing to put them together would be well...the big T. Which we don't know if he'll LITERALLY be in GotG but his existence should be rather much felt, I'd think. Thor 2 rolled the ball a bit more into the GotG realm, which stuck out horribly where they placed it but I thought it was alright.
I will admit...it is fucking exciting to see where they will go with this cuz again...nothing like this has ever existed in the film realm. But something like this is very common for it's origin base. I am excited for GotG. Groot and Branches, bitches!

James Gunn once again dubbed Rocket “the heart of the movie” in a separate interview with Total Film magazine. “He is most representative of the Guardians in the fact that he’s this little mangled beast that was taken and experimented on and torn apart and put back together, and we have to feel that character’s soul,” Gunn says. “If we see his plight, and see why he’s such an angry little guy, then the movie will work.”
