To be fair in that respect, not much has changed.

Youre more than doubling that figure. Top books are stretching to reach 100k these days. Batman is pretty much the only one that manages to break that mark consistantly. Now there maybe outliers of "event" books or major events that spike sales, but saying 200,000 as a ceiling is pushing it.

Actually I think the massive crossovers started with Secret Wars and Crisis on Infinite Earths (the latter is a masterpiece). I used to collect comics and even owned a comic shop at one time and am mystified that they chose this property to tie in with Phase II. I doubt I will see this in theaters, but am open to it. I expect it will probably be better than I'm thinking it will just because Joss will probably have some input to tie it up all into Avengers 2.

I've liked every superhero movie I've ever seen to "some" degree, simply because I grew up with comics and it's great to see live action adaptions of so many characters I remember when I was young. Given that, I don't know this version of the Guardians of the Galaxy (I grew up with the one that ran in Marvel Presents). The raccoon makes it seem a bit ridiculous. So we'll see. I only give it a chance because it's tied into the Marvel Universe movies, otherwise I probably wouldn't care.

Though I am kinda looking forward to Lucy with Scarlett Johansson. That looks very intriguing.

If Marvel is interested in having a series of cosmic movies running concurrently with the Earth-based ones, than GotG actually makes a lot of sense. It's a fun, irreverent way to introduce a lot of out there characters.

And they have a connection to Adam Warlock, who is a must for any movie that focuses on the Infinity Gems. And without giving too much away they also have a connection to Thanos as well that could be exploited.

I have very high hopes for this movie and sure it will be all kinds of coolness.

Oh, and i loved the Secret Wars I and II comics. I was an avid reader of all the Infinity series as well....from the Thanos Quest, through Infinity Gauntlet....even to recent fair like the Thanos Imperative. If Thanos is involved, it means Universal destruction and has some weapon of Godlike power....count me in, especially if Galactus/Elders/Celestials/Any other Cosmic Gods are involved.

The way these movies are playing out, we could have a Avengers Annual #7 + MTiO Annual 2 storyline. The Avengers + GotG vs Thanos and his Army. That storyline did involve the Soul Gems and Warlock (and Pip!!!). A solo Thanos movie would be beyond awesome.

So this will be Thanos' coming out party in the MCU, minus the Avengers credit scene. Should be interesting what seeds they plant for his grand scheme. There's the Tesseract (Cosmic Cube), the Gems, or both.
