I'm going to buck the trend and say that I think Bride and Seed are the two best Child's Play films. Still, if they want to try to take it scary again, I'll give it a shot.

Bride was great but Seed was terrible.

Oh, come on now! Maybe I'll give you Bride because it tried to do something different, but Seed (from what I've seen) played like a retarded DTV Scary Movie sequel. The original would be held in higher regard if we never got any sequels, and I still stand by the fact that it's much creepier and effective than people seem to recall.

I rewatched the original Child's Play yesterday. That thing is not the least bit scary. Give me jokey Chucky till the day I die.

Im a fan of them all of them except the third one. All the kids in that movie were little bitches. I really enjoy the last two the most.

So the trailer for this was released today. Surprisingly it doesn't look half bad. It appears as though it's coming direct to DVD/Blu-ray in October but I might pick it up. Also didn't realize until I read the IMDB synopsis but apparently it sounds like this takes place after the events of Child's Play 3. So not sure if this ignores Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky or acts as a prequel or what exactly. Personally it wouldn't bother me if Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky are ignored as I don't really care for them (particularly Seed of Chucky).

Well...that doesn't look half bad.... Except for CGI Chucky face.

This looks like it might actually be somewhat decent. Doubt I'd buy the dvd, but a rental for sure.

Looks decent from that short look, I'll definitely watch it, won't blind buy. Chucky's face looks off though when he comes to life. Eyes are slanted, lips are more puckered, almost like he had a face lift. That'd make sense if they weren't ignoring Bride and Seed.

re: Curse of Chucky (dir. Mancini, Dourif returns, 2013)
Here's my take:
Trailer looks decent. DTV production value in 2013 is apparently about about equal to what Universal was according on the 2nd and 3rd films. It seems like they're working we'll with their limitations: Chucky looks great and the smaller setting never hurt a horror film.
I doubt they're ignoring Bride and Seed in any major way. It's apparently a prequel so they'd really have to go out of their way to NOT ignore those two movies by including a bunch of ham-fisted foreshadowing Easter eggs. It seems like they've simply treated it like a lost Child's Play 4. This is gonna be one of those movies that has to exist as a part of the series proper for die-hard fans, a standalone for new viewers and a return to form for the skeptics. I have a feeling the die-hards are gonna get the short end of the stick and the implication will always be that Chucky could have terrorized countless people between CP3 and BoC and this is just one of those instances. But I don't see Mancini basically de-canonizing two films he wrote, one of which he directed.
Universal is actually doing a 6-film Blu-ray box set including the original film licensed from MGM. That's going a long way towards getting me interested in this. I too have always found this entire series far more ridiculous than scary but I love the genre, and for all the ups and downs this series has faced over the years I think it's cool that the same star and writer have been on-board for every film for a quarter of a century.
