R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

Just read the news. He was 91.

Man, is it depressing. Heard him speak in person at conventions a couple of times, and had the opportunity to talk to him and Forry Ackerman when they were together at the San Diego ComicCon the year or so before Forry died.

Got to go reread the Martian Chronicles.

Re: R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

I won't lie. I thought he already passed away years ago. That said, 91 is a good long life.

Re: R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

I met him at several talks he had at local libraries throughout the years. He was an icon.

Re: R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

It was bound to happen, he was very old. He seemed to be winding down for many years now. Great guy. He will be missed.

Re: R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

At least now he won't have to listen to all the obscenity in movies that bothered him so much.

Re: R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

Not unexpected given his age, but I grew up reading Bradbury.

Re: R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

RIP Ray Bradbury.

I just started getting into his books a few years back. Started with "Something Wicked This Way Comes." Excellent book and kind of reminded me of Stephen King's style.

I also got some old Ray Bradbury Comics, that featured artists adapting his stories. Turns out a lot of EC comics adapted his stories as well.

I grew up reading Bradbury long before I developed an appreciation for movies, but when I read of his passing, this was the forum I thought of first.

Re: R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

Never read any of his stories but have heard them adapted on SUSPENSE, ESCAPE, and X-MINUS ONE
radio shows.
Good Entertainment.

REST IN PEACE.

Re: R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

He attributed his success as a writer to never having gone to college--instead, he read and wrote voraciously. "When I graduated from high school in 1938, I began going to the library three nights a week," he said in an interview with The Paris Review. "I did this every week for almost ten years and finally, in 1947, around the time I got married, I figured I was done. So I graduated from the library when I was twenty-seven. I discovered that the library is the real school."

Re: R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

Ray Bradbury has 79 credits on IMDB for writer of film/TV, which includes original story contribution as well as screenplay.

A studio that contracts a smart writer/director is going to make a billion off The Martian Chronicles. Mark my words.

Re: R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

I read "Martian Chronicles" for the first time a few years back and loved it. He had such a wonderful way of writing descriptively.

True... but, in hindsight, it was his association with so many movies/TV shows that made me think of this forum first.

See the Anne Thompson link in Ash Ketchum's post.
