Whoa! Wait! What?! When you went you got a cool 3D helmet with readouts? All I got was a cheapo pair of plastic-shit glasses to watch the movie with! Man, we really need better theaters around here ...

What is funny is that after watching Alien again I can't help but laugh at the "future" technology showcased and how it pales in comparison to the technology in the events taking place years before in Prometheus. What is the point of a room with flashing lights everywhere?

Re: Prometheus aka Прометей (Scott, 2012) — The Reviews Thread
I finally saw a movie in an IMAX theater - wow.
Audio and video was phenomenal and definitely worth the higher fee.
3D was easily the best I have seen in some time. As Supermallet said at the beginning of the thread - it was very well utilized.
I am not a fanatic of the Scott and Cameron films that preceded this, but I thought this was pretty damn good for the most part. **** out of five. My brother-in-law is a huge fan of the first two films and loved this as well.
A couple of things bothered me, but I completely agree that a Director's Cut can help flesh some stuff.
I don't think the very beginning was necessary. I would have preferred seeing the Engineers for the first time when they took the Space Jockey helmet off.
Also - the geologist coming back to the ship was unnecessary in this theatrical cut.
The visuals were amazing for the most part, particularly in IMAX 3D. The scene of David discovering the Engineers' bridge was pretty damn cool.
Noomi Rapace was excellent, as was Fassbender, who I am much more familiar w/. Also liked Idris Elba, as usual.

Re: Prometheus aka Прометей (Scott, 2012) — The Reviews Thread
I just watched The Darkest Hour last night. Horrible movie written by Jon Spaihts (one of the writers on Prometheus). The other writer, Lindelof, wrote Cowboys and Aliens.
Suddenly, I'm impressed that Ridley Scott took whatever turd these two turned in and made a watchable, at times even intriguing, movie. Knowing what I know now, this movie is much better than it had any right to be.

Saw it Saturday and loved it. Hope the worldwide gross justifies the making of the sequel.
Cannot wait to see how it connects to Alien.

you prompted me to check out the totals;
Domestic: $108,452,350 41.6%
+ Foreign: $152,400,000 58.4%
= Worldwide: $260,852,350
ok...so business wise, this is the part I always forget, but...is this good? To me it is but...it's only made double the budget and then some. So...barely good?

Seeing how it has out grossed any of the alien or predator movies so far (ok, not counting inflation), I'd say it's doing pretty well. Even including inflation it has mopped the floor with AVPR & Predators. It's dropping, but still have some steam left in it, maybe another 10-15 million left in the tank domestic.
I'm not sure what the studio needs to hit in order to consider more films, but at this point the film seems to be paid for. It's all profit from here on out. Which seems to be the goal now days with the huge budgets. Theater run pays for the film, anything after that is money in the bank.

I never did understand why Disney felt a sequel to a 30 year old box office disappointment was going to rack in Avatar numbers. Hell, considering that fact, I'd say it did rather well.

It needs just $15m more to pass Cameron's Aliens, then Scott will have the two highest-grossing films in the franchise, with inflation adjusted, with the original still the #1.

I enjoyed it. Visuals and sound were amazing (IMAX 3D) and I was pretty enthralled until some of stupidity like the biologist/geologist end scenes took me out of the film a bit. Agree with most of the shortcomings pointed out in this thread, but still had a great time watching it and look forward to seeing it again.

Spoiler:
interesting that it will have the first and final draft of the script
saw it yesterday and thought it was ok, not great (though it looked great) ... went in with low expectations and they were pretty much met ... actually agree with many of the criticisms Supermallet had

While not a great movie or anything, Scott's Robin Hood was better in almost every way than Prometheus. A longer director's cut of Prometheus will never make sense of the nonsense in the movie, with which it was brimming with.

If they had alternate takes, it could fix a lot.

I agree. I thought the film felt neutered. It was like they shot a PG-13 film but couldn't get the rating and were stuck with these half-assed shots. Had they shot an all out R rating film I think the response in general would've been alot better.
