Re: Prometheus aka Прометей (Scott, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

This article on Collider claims to know what David said to the Engineer.

For those who favor brevity, here's the dialogue:

“This man is here because he does not want to die. He believes you can give him more life.”

That's pretty much what I assumed based on the context. Were people assuming differently just because of the Engineer's violent reaction?

I think some people assumed he said something to piss him off. I knew what he was likely saying, but the article implies many were left confused.

No surprises there. Its the whole reason the voyage was funded.

Yeah, was there really any confusion there? It was pretty simple to assume that David said that.

This was interesting:

this interaction was actually a small part of a larger conversation between David and the Engineer that was cut from the film
ooooh

Re: Prometheus aka Прометей (Scott, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

Saw a 3D screening last night and enjoyed it. I had lowered my expectations based on the reviews and that probably helped. I know there's script/plot issues, but I can't get too worked up over them. I was very entertained and was happy just to see a sci-fi film for adults. This isn't a movie I'm going to put under the microscope and I look forward to a sequel, which I hope we get. I also wasn't expecting an instant classic along the lines of Alien. The Ridley Scott of today doesn't have a film like that in him anymore. Even with above average efforts, this film looked superb, as is the case with most of his productions.

The 3D effect was solid. Not alot of pop out moments, but plenty of depth.

Re: Prometheus aka Прометей (Scott, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

So, I finally saw this. It was gorgeous. Visuals are top notch and if I based movies only on visuals, this would be my favorite movie of the year. It even starts off pretty good. The set up is fine, character introductions okay but nothing special but holy fucking shit, does this movie shit the bed. I didn't realize this movie was going to just turn into basically a monster movie with the standard stupid characters doing stupid things to get killed.

I had stayed away from hearing details about the movie and the beginning had actually kind of fooled me into thinking it would be about where we come from. It abandons that concept once they go into the big face room. And then I felt bad as the movie went on and was like well, they can't all be winners. But it had to go and set up a sequel. They couldn't have been more blatant and shitty in setting it up. What a bunch of shit. Fassbender was great but even his character motivations aren't clear. Why infect Halloway? Man, this movie pisses me off because it looks great. Fuck.

To save you from scouring the pages of this thread, he infected Holloway because Weyland wanted to know what the goo would do inside a human.

Thanks. It would've been nice if the movie told me that. It just made David look like a bad guy for a while there and was confusing as all fuck.

I think there was also a scene where David asks him how far he would go to experience something or other. I guess that was his way of getting his consent or something.

This may sound odd, but am I the only one who really doesn't care what happens to Shaw and David? Really, the whole bit of them taking off in another ship really doesn't interest me at all. Possibly because I already realize no matter what happens, it is a crock. They arbitrarily take off in an Alien ship that has been left derelict for 2,000 years to go confront the very beings who everybody (but me) believes are intent on destroying the human race. Did they not think about food and water? Sure, it doesn't matter to David, but Shaw will be dead within weeks. (I am sure this was the whole point of Vicker's quarters being jettisoned -- they ransacked it off-screen before they took off.)

Actually ... I think I already saw the sequel. They arrive at the home planet, ready to kick ass and take names in order to save Earth. After learning that a towel is essential to space travel, they find out the Engineers are really engineers working for a bureaucratic race of aliens. The Engineers are simply following orders to destroy Earth in favor of an intergalactic space route that must be constructed there ... or was that Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?

Saw it last night. Liked it, but didn't love it. Had so much promise based on the trailers. I'm not reading through 19 pages of this thread, but every time Guy Pearce was on screen, all I could think to myself was "Man, that's what Val Kilmer is going to look like in 30 years."

You keep following me from thread to thread, and now across forums, to call me dumb. This is harassment. I'm alerting the internet police. They are going to backtrace you, and consequences will never be the same.

Clearly, he wants your Bando-Cock.

Even Vib's has a cut off point for following you. But we all know she doesn't really want your Bando-Cock so the line makes sense.

Saw Prometheus yesterday (2D) and had a good time with it. Visually stunning for sure. Would have been even better if Ridley Scott would have shot it using IMAX cameras. Michael Fassbender was excellent and Charlize Theron may have portrayed one of the most poisonous characters I've seen this year. Can definitely see myself re-watching this one. 8/10.

I'm not a 3D fan but have found Avatar, Hugo, and Prometheus to be worth it. It all depends on how it's used. I'd prefer it to not exist but..in it's existence. Those 3 films have valued for it.

3D was great with the helmet cams/readouts, those worked perfect in 3D.

The 3D IMAX was much more enjoyable, saw it in 2D first then a friend gave me a free 3D IMAX ticket.

I replied in this thread first. At least I think I did, I haven't gone through the entire 1,000 pages. But yeah, I've never had enormous genitals in my mouth. So, you caught me.
