Was that the one where originally it was told from the Sheriffs point of view, and Robin Hood was viewed as the villain? I'm probably remembering the thread wrong, but if correct that sounds like a really good angle for a new Robin Hood story.

it's long and convoluted. Anyway...we ended up w/ what we got. which wasn't really that fascinating but really pretty.

I appreciate the guy because he's made movies (and commercials, and photography) his whole life. He's over 70 and still plugging away at making movies, with a wide audience in mind. Scott Free does a lot of the legwork, he's an owner at Shepperton Studios, and his various companies handle a lot of his productions. He fronted a lot of his personal money when he made Duelists. And RSA continues to make commercials nonstop.

On a smaller level, Robert Rodriguez does the same thing with Troublemaker.

I can't help but appreciate the dedication and risk.

I'll never take him down on that. I'm just saying...the man can be blinded to some things as well. He's as much to blame w/ the script as anyone else. I mean...it's fucking Ridley Scott. I'm sure he'd say something sucked if he thought that. Sometimes though? He's his own enemy on story.

As has been said, it was the execution and the sub-plots, not the main idea, that's at fault.

So long as they give us a really cool sequel with David and Shaw, all will be ok. But the last thing I want to see is a retread sequel where a team finds the two and they go back.
I can't imagine that the sequel would be Shaw and David chatting with the engineers for 2 hours.

It will probably be called Prometheus 2 and we will follow the Prometheus 2 and its crew to LV-223. There they somehow track Shaw and David to the engineer's homeworld. Stuff happens (hopefully we get some answers), and then everyone ends up on LV-426 somehow.

Re: Prometheus aka Прометей (Scott, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

I've seen the movie twice now and I have to admit its really growing on me.

I previously compared it to Revenge of the Sith. But that's because I like them both despite tons of flaws.

What this movie really reminds me of is all those 50s movies (like Forbidden Planet) where a team of scientists goes off to some barren, remote location and discovers something wondrous or horrific. There were dozens of movies with this premise in the 50s, but they just don't make them anymore (Mission to Mars and Red Planet don't count since they are both unwatchable). So eventhough its an ancient concept, it feels fresh to me.

Nice to see RSA mentioned. I have a friend who worked there for years and heard nothing but great stories while she was there. Said both Ridley and Tony were great people.

Mine as well.

Having had a few wks to process the film, I'm still sticking with my "good, not great" opinion. Definitely hoping we get an extended cut - it didn't sound like a certainty from Scott's quote(s).

Soundtrack and art book on the way!

Seriously though: tainted human/black goo sperm + human egg --> instantaneous squid baby --> giant facehugger (squid-style -- not insectile as we've seen in past ... er ... future movies) + Engineer --> bug. Huh?

I think Ridley/Lindeloff stole this concept from South Park:

1.) Steal underpants.
2.) ????
3.) Profit.

This is the best shot ... but I don't buy it. I can buy (and believe) the suit is organic but in that case it would be symbiotic with the host ... I don't see the "hostile" DNA pulling more from the suit than the actual host. But then I'm not a geneticist, I didn't play one on TV, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

If this didn't have Ridley's name on it, people would be far, far kinder to the film.

Which is odd, considering his track record.

I'm assuming the squid was just a giant mutated sperm...

I'm not saying any of it makes sense, but I just want to point out that there was no human egg. Shaw was infertile. The "squid baby" was presumably just Holloway's mutated sperm gestating inside her as others have mentioned.

Shame Damon Lindelof got involved with this project. That guy is a fucking disease.

Unfortunately, I was paged by an emergency services director and missed that part of the movie. That makes even less sense ...

I'm not sure I'm understanding the hatred for him. One of several writers for very successful network shows....a couple feature films. Am I missing something?

I guess, but it doesn't really make that much less sense than the chestburster gestating inside Kane after entering him via the facehugger.

Shaw doesn't fit into the equation at all. She's just a host, like Kane was. At least, that's my take on a relatively ambiguous and nonsensical issue.

I get the hate he's involved himself with. he's a nerd. Which in theory is great for these things. But at some point he gets too cluttered and it all falls apart. He means well and starts off well but then..he gets too cluttered.
