Defend a bad movie

It's so easy to hate a bad movie. I'm sure most people who post in a movie forum love movies and when we see a bad one, some of us tend to pile every insult on the movie. "Fuck this shit." "Aids is better than watching this." "I hope the movie gets raped and gets Aids and then I hope someone shits over this piece of shit."

It is much more difficult to point out the good things in something bad though. I'm pretty sure there's something good in at least every movie. So, pick a movie that's bad and list three things that are good about it. Try not to pick a movie that you love that everyone else hates, pick a movie that YOU think is bad. I'm curious to see the results.

I pick Vampires Suck. Well, I like that the makers seem to hold the Twilight movies in disdain like I do. Secondly, the main girl is kinda cute. Third, well, shit. This is hard. It looks like a somewhat well shot movie.

Your turn.

Re: Defend a bad movie

Ok, I pick "Cabin in the Woods".
1) I liked the fact that they attempted (although failed) to put a twist on the horror genre
2) I liked that I saw many cheap imitations of monsters from other films that reminded me what a good horror movie has in it
3) I liked the fact that my wife and I were the only ones who were dumb enough to buy a ticket for this movie and thus could act like kids again making rude comments at the screen in the theatre without disturbing everyone around us.

I'll defend

The Cable Guy

I thought it's got 3 great scenes:

1) The basketball game featuring Carrey's "assist" from Jack Black
2) The karaoke party with Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody to Love"

3) The Jim Carrey line: "And a THX sound system that would make George Lucas cream in his pants!"

The Lonely Lady (1983)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085863/

Best "raped with a water hose by Ray Liotta" scene EVER.

Hugo. Say what you like about it, but at least it exposed people to the works of Méliès.

Okay, I'll play.

I just watched Pulse (2006) last night. It was a horrible mess.
That said, I liked:
1. Kristen Bell.
2. It was framed at 2.35:1.
3. The scene where a girl jumps from a very high place and splats on the ground.

Don't be Afraid of the Dark (remake)

1. I love Guy Pearce, and could essentially watch him in anything.
2. It did have a certain creepy vibe, I thought.
3. The child actress in it was pretty good.
4. Katie Holmes was tolerable.

I forgot about the last episode of From Earth to the Moon until I saw parts of it shown in the documentary on the recent A Trip to the Moon combo release.

Slackers (with Devon Sawa and Jason Schwartzman)

it's funny as hell and beyond quotable. despite overly-forgiving and outlandish characters, it's not a bad teen movie.

Sex Drive

excellent cinematography from Tim Orr (David Gordon Green's cinematographer who has a lot of Terrence Malick worship obviously). laugh-out-loud funny. and Seth Green as an Amish man.

Step Brothers:

When all is said and done it's a shitty movie, but it absolutely MUST be seen for:
1. Did you touch my drums?
2. All the job interviews
3. The fucking Catalina Wine Mixer!
4. 80's Billy Joel cover band "We're a tribute to '80s Joel, sir."
5. Marry Steenburgen looks hotter in this than anything I've ever seen her in--Maximum MILF
6. What's your favorite non-pornograhic magazine to masturbate to? Better Home and Garden

Superman III

1. Annette O'Toole

3. Evil Drunk Superman vs Good Super Clark Kent scene.

Speed 2 - my favorite bad movie

1. Cruise plot - cruises are actually great vacations..haha
2. Soundtrack is quality. Mark Mancina (also credited with the Bad Boys soundtrack) did a great job with the score.

yea, I only have two points.

The Friday the 13th remake. It's not brilliant, but it grows on you.

It takes the formula of the first four movies, and adds better directing, acting and pacing.

It has, arguability, the best interpretation of Jason in the entire series.

It's so well made for what it is, overall, that it's probably one of the top three most purely entertaining movies of the series.

Van Helsing

-Good production values
-Fast paced
-Appeals to the kid in you that grew up watching old monster movies, if you were that kind of kid
-Doesn't actually start to fall apart until the third act, at least IMO.

Terminator:Salvation
-Again, looks really good
-Finally gives us a Terminator movie set entirely during the war with the machines.
