Brad Bird had my loyal support ever since The Iron Giant.

Love Brad Bird (his abandoning of 35mm not withstanding ), skeptical about Disney and Lindeloff. But Bird has yet to disappoint me.

I've never been as big a fan of Bird as everyone else here, but then again I'm the odd man out in not loving The Iron Giant.

Reviews are trickling out... so far it seems mixed.

Sounds like even the "fresh" reviews aren't so hot on it.

Sounds mostly that the script is to blame. Lindelof strikes again! Seriously, can we stop handing shit to this clown? He seems to ruin everything he touches.

I'm a fan of Brad Bird, but even after watching this trailer for months and the 6 minute exclusive IMAX preview, I still have zero interest in seeing this movie. Oh well

Like I've said, there's a kernal of something very interesting in this film but they seem to have lost it.

I think I'll skip this one as I wasn't impressed with the trailer at all. I wish Bird had returned to do MI5 instead.

I dunno. Seems like Cruise sure wants a new director for each movie. To add more to the property and for each one to have its own style.

Bird did a fine job on MI:GP but nothing about his work suggested he had to be back for the sequel. If anything, he made such a cliched, over the top contemporary action vehicle that I'm happy to see someone else stepping in.

I was disappointed when I saw the PG rating. I know that shouldn't matter but in a live action film that basically means nothing happens. Couple that with the poor reviews and I'll be skipping it.

Interesting negative review by Justin Chang in Variety:

And Thompson on Hollywood's review round-up:

I was looking forward to this, but the more I see of it, the more sour I turn on it. Same can be said of Jurassic World.

Sounds like Lindelof to a tee.

Since the PG-13 rating was introduced, I'd say decent live-action PG-rated films are a thing of a rarity.

Because there needs to be a reason for the "people there" to listen and take action. Having a different perspective, good idea or other beneficial viewpoint doesn't usually cut it. I enjoyed John Carter and Lone Ranger (and Maleficent and, to a lesser extent, Cinderella), so "live-action" and "Disney" were almost enough for me even without decent trailers and cast. So I'm looking forward to it regardless!

I wish j could figure out what the hell went wrong with John Carter of Mars (I refuse to remove that from the title). The books have been fun swashbucklers for almost 100 years, I like Andrew Stanton, I like Pixar, and after what Jackson did with Tolkien, technology should've caught up to such a point that it should've been immensely fun. If only the screenplay made some kind of sense.

I like seeing things like "wild optimism" in the reviews. That's right up my alley. Already like it. Should be a good, positive film for families to watch.

A friend saw this tonight at a press screening and said that they should have called it: Dull-Land. He also wanted his 2 hours back.

We're seeing it on Sunday.

This review is pretty amusing: http://www.nola.com/movies/index.ssf...view_when.html

They state the first hour or so is a blast, and then you apparently, very obviously end up in Lindelof land.
