Regal to come out with Subtitle Glasses

So maybe my idea for premium prices for TDKR tickets will come true after all!

The glasses, designed to help hearing impaired moviegoers, will be compatible with both 2D and 3D movies.
There's great news for moviegoers with hearing disabilities today as Regal Entertainment and Sony have teamed up to finally bring subtitle glasses to movie theaters in the States.

Simply stated, the glasses add a line of closed captioned text for those wearing them. The location of the text is adjustable on the glasses, so you can move it to avoid blocking the screen. 3D isn't a problem for the new subtitle glasses either. Simply attaching a clip-on filter to the glasses will provide a 3D experience while the text stays nice and clear.
These glasses will start hitting theaters this month and will be available in a majority of Regal theaters by early 2013.

I'm curious about the size of the text, and how it would look.

to Regal and Sony for bringing this about.

This is neat. There's definitely a market for them, as the Regal closest to home in the US would run several CC shows during the week.

If Sony is smart, they will release subtitles in other languages on the day and date of the film.

These will definitely get me to the theater more often. I'm hearing impaired and only catch about half of a movie's dialogue, so I pretty much only check out action-heavy films.

Didn't take long for someone to make a comment about these being a necessity for TDKR.

Personally I don't have a use for them but it's a pretty cool idea and I'm sure it'll help a lot of people out in the future.

My father-in-law will love this. He wants subtitles on pretty much every movie he watches.

I hope these quickly become widespread. I'm sure my deaf aunt would love to be able to go to the movies more often before she becomes too old to leave the house.

Re: Regal to come out with Subtitle Glasses

Now if they would only come out with 5.1, 7.1 surround head sets for your ears I would end up going to the movies more often instead of having to go very early in the morning before the crowds. Went to a theatre that has servers bring you your food and serve beer and drinks in the theatre thinking that it would be a good experience but ended up sucking becouse every 10 minutes a cell phone would go off and it did't help that the theatre was filled with senior citizens who would just let there phones keep ringing untill it went to voice mail. It was worse than the Magic Johnson theatre that is near the military base i'm based at.

Re: Regal to come out with Subtitle Glasses

Something not mentioned in the article in the OP: These glasses also provide descriptive audio for the visually impaired:
http://www.boxofficemagazine.com/new...dience-members
For blind and visually impaired customers, Sony's Entertainment Access Glasses, paired with headphones, provide descriptive audio tracks.
Also, it can display subtitles in up to six languages:
Weighing less than 3 ounces (84 grams), the glasses can be programmed to display bright closed caption text in a choice of six languages.
Edit: Also, a brochure from Sony:
