Goosebumps - The Movie (2015, D: Letterman) S: Jack Black
The two young leads of Columbia Pictures' Goosebumps have been found! Deadline and TheWrap respectively report that Dylan Minnette (Prisoners) and Odeya Rush (The Odd Life of Timothy Green) are now set to star opposite Jack Black in the upcoming feature film based on the R.L. Stine book series.
To be directed by Rob Letterman, Goosebumps will star Black as a fictionalized version of Stine, who winds up being the suburban neighbor of Minnette's Zach Cooper. When Slappy, a ventriloquist dummy, sets loose all the terrifying ideas in Stine's head, it's up to Zach and Stine's niece, Hannah (Rush) to save the day.
The "Goosebumps" series have sold more than 300 million copies worldwide, second only to the "Harry Potter" series in total sales.
Neal Moritz is producing the film through his Original Film banner with Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment.
Slappy the Dummy.
Only fitting that Ryan Gosling makes a cameo, right?

This seems like it would be better suited as an anthology type movie with a few different tales rather than just a regular film. I had a bunch of the books growing up (probably still have them around somewhere actually) and remember watching the series on Fox. Not sure I'd bother seeing this though unless it looks really good. I'm guessing the only reason they're doing this is to try and capture people who grew up with this and have kids now with some nostalgia as I don't know if the books are that popular anymore (though I believe R.L. Stine still writes kids books in a similar style to Goosebumps).

Before there were DVD's, there were Goosebumps. I was an avid collector when I was 7-14. Probably my first ever 'hobby'.
The TV shows were alright. I hope they make it edgy enough to make it fun for adults too.
Has there been any scary stuff for kids recently? We had stuff like "Goosebumps" and "Are You Afraid of the Dark" in the 90's. I guess there's higher-end fare like Harry Potter.

Jack Black’s ‘Goosebumps’ Set for March 23, 2016 Launch
Sony Pictures has set “Goosebumps,” starring Jack Black, for a March 23, 2016 release in the U.S. — the first title to land on that Easter weekend date.
The film, based on the series of kids’ books by R.L. Stine, is directed by Rob Letterman and produced by Neal H. Moritz through his Original Film banner. Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment, which published the books, is also producing.
Dylan Minnette is the co-lead opposite Black. Story follows Minnette’s character, who moves from New York City to the small town of Greendale, Maryland and discovers that secretive neighbor is veteran young adult horror author R.L. Stine (Black). When all the many demons of Stine’s mind are set free by a demonic ventriloquist’s dummy, it’s up to Minnette’s character and Stine’s niece Hannah to deal with all the evil.

The film's release date is actually August 7, 2015.
Letterman and Black pairing up for another film again as they tackle how to ruin my childhood nostalgia? Count me the fuck out.

In one of the more recent Goosebumps living dummy installations (I think it's called Goosebumps Most Wanted now), there's a dummy called Mr. Badboy. Slappy is a wonderful name next to that one.

I wish they would've made a t.v. series or even film series based on Fear Street! I'm surprised that's never happened. That's a series that would certainly catch my interest, since that series intrigued me more than Goosebumps. The original cover art alone on the books were excellent and got my imagination running on what terrors may lurk inside.
Unfortunately with the advances in technology since the 90's(mainly cell phones and the internet). The majority of the plots of the books wouldn't work in a modern setting, unless heavily re-written or just make it a period piece in the 90's.

Bump for the release this week.
Currently 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/goos...contentReviews
I was a big fan of the books as a kid. I will try and check it out but this is one of 3 new releases this week.

The good reviews are interesting.
I caught Gremlins on the big screen last week. And Monster Squad appeared on Netflix recently. Those were the scary family movies from my childhood. I'm hoping Goosebumps gives us something similar.

reeling me in with childhood memories...sold! I remember watching the series every Saturday night as a kid and putting the jumpy scenes on mute. Good times seems like our generation cant shake the nostalgia feelings with all these reboots and remakes!

My kids are the perfect age and have read a bunch of the books. I checked out the tv series on Netflix with them... it left a lot to be desired. Hopefully the movie budget was a little higher.

This is different than the show though. 1. Those were actual adaptions of the books. 2. Of course the budget will be more. It was a Saturday afternoon kids show on Fox.

The effects don't look the greatest. At least from the trailer, IMO.
