Best comment I saw - Mummy:Impossible... seems about right. The trailer really emphasized Cruise over the Mummy/horror (if any) elements...I'm a Cruise fanboy, but this wasn't what I was hoping for. Of course, I'll still be there opening wknd....

The Universal Monster Universe movies are not going to be horror movies. Tney're going to be contemporary action films based around the old horror properties. More superheroes than gothic horror. Which, I suppose, shouldn't be too surprising since Universal trying to emulate the Marvel Cinematic Universe with their own properties.

As for the trailer ... Is this the one where he keeps dying in the plane crash and then waking up until he gets it right? Or is this the one where he is the second-best monster hunter living in his father's shadow until he overcomes his own fears and becomes the best fighter pilot/pool hustler/race car driver/military lawyer/secret agent/monster hunter?

They're going for a superstar "League of Extraordinary Gentleman" type of franchise. Minus the League. You already have two folks in it that are part of the monsters - The Mummy and Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde. I wonder if by the end of the picture Tom Cruise will become the new cursed mummy?
