Re: Top 50 Most Hated Films of All Time

I still don't get it. In the last Indiana Jones movie, why are aliens so ridiculous but the lost ark of the covenant, a dude who can pull out a beating heart without killing the guy, and a 2000 year old knight guarding the chalice of Christ completely believable?

The only ones from that list that I hated were The Spirit, Planet of the Apes, and The Happening.

Even though Top Whatever lists are totally arbitrary, this one is worse than most. Forty-nine of those movies are from the last twenty years, for the luvva mike.

I like a dozen of these movies. I won't name them as I don't want to incriminate myself.

Re: Top 50 Most Hated Films of All Time

Some of those just had an unfair backlash against them, but seriously, where is Halloween III: Season of the Witch!?

I don't think the Aliens in Indy were the problem. It was the god awful piece of shit script.

I was thinking along the lines of Gigli, Hudson Hawk, Bonfire of the Vanities, Heaven's Gate...

I actually like it. Is it well-made cinema? No, but as far as cheesy 1980s horror movies go, it's a-okay by me.

The list is invalid as The Devil Inside and Skyline aren't on there.

Are you kidding me, you don't think (or get?) Indy 4 gets hate? What a disaster. The most disappointing movie experience of my life.

I love Forrest Gump (even if it did beat out my favorite movie of all time for best pic Oscar, Shawshank) and I thought the Texas Chainsaw remake was pretty good.

This is not a worst movie list..or critically panned movie list...or the biggest bombs movie list. I'm guessing that these are films that people spew disgust and hatred over regularly on the internet. Thus your films and a lot of films mentioned by others in this thread are not applicable or don't make the cut.

Re: Top 50 Most Hated Films of All Time

Seems to me like this is just a list a movies some person at Total Film didn't like as opposed to any kind of an "Official List". Whoever compiled that list seems petty to me. I counted 14 movies from the list that I own and my wife & I have enjoyed more than once, and will again in time. I take lists like this with a grain of salt (so to speak), this one is no different. -kd5-

I was JUST about to post something about Heaven's Gate. Also, weren't Bertolucci's 1900 and Coppola's Cotton Club badly received by audiences too?

Yeah, those bombs were disliked by critics and audiences back when they were new, but then were pretty much forgotten (except for being bombs). Somebody mentioned Ishtar, which hasn't even been released on DVD in Region 1. The people they polled for this list may not have even heard of it, let alone actually seen it.

As for Love Actually, the only thing I think of is that it's a popular chick flick, and the guys they polled don't like being forced to watch it.

Love Actually is one of the only chick flicks I like (and it's rated R). I don't know anyone who hates it.

Re: Top 50 Most Hated Films of All Time

Sucker Punch is the only film on that list that I 100% agree with. The number of the other ones were put there just to stir up internet rage and create fights. Forrest Gump? Really? I thought the idea of the movie was lame when it first came out but I gave it a shot and it ended up being a favorite for many years.

License to Kill almost ended the Bond franchise. But it was pre-internet.

Taken as it is in the original concept for the Halloween series (each entry being a different story revolving around the Halloween season) Halloween III actually isn't that bad. I think if the title was just Season of the Witch or something different (say Halloween presents Season of the Witch or something along those lines) this movie probably wouldn't have the backlash it does. The movie is actually fairly creepy and I really didn't mind it at all to be honest.

Re: Top 50 Most Hated Films of All Time

Was that the one with Christmas coming more than once a year or something like that was the last line of the movie and Denise Richards was a nuclear scientist? Bond went through a little rough patch there for a while.

There's a few movies that I enjoyed on that list but can't argue too much with the Battlefield Earth, Batman & Robin, Catwoman, Shyamalan movies etc.

I'm not saying I don't get the hate, I'm saying I don't think it deserves all the hate it gets. I thought it came off rather well in light of the Star Wars prequels and what a disaster they proved in the minds of many (myself somewhat included). Furthermore, having been let down by the previous outings of Lucas, my expectations were pretty low. I thought little of the "nuking the fridge" moment and kind of chuckled at the prairie dogs. If they could have just cut out a few stupid moments, the movie would have been a good deal better. That said, it's still the worst of the series and I won't deny that I was somewhat disappointed, but more by cheesy moments than by story.
