Wow, just looking at that poster makes me realize what a terrible lineup of movies are nominated for Best Picture this year. I've only seen about half of them, didn't really love any of those, and feel very little enthusiasm about seeing the others (though I will eventually). Is it just me?
Lowest Oscar ratings ever? I'd bet yes. |

Just shows you what happens when the year doesn't have a Ron Howard picture to sweep the categories.

This may be the first year in awhile that I don't watch at all. Just can't get excited this year...

Re: The 84th Academy Awards --> 2012 Awards Show Discussion
I liked a few of the Best Picture nominees, but none of them are all-time greats. A probable win for The Artist just means yet another Best Picture winner that nobody will even remember in 10 years. Looking at the Best Picture winners over the past 10 years, I'm not sure many, if any, would be a movie that you look at and think that, in the future, it will be looked back on as a classic.
If you go back to even just as recently as the '90s, there are a lot of winners that are still considered masterpieces by many (Braveheart, Titanic, Forrest Gump, Schindler's List, to name a few). I don't know if the quality has just dropped off so much over the past decade or the wrong films are being nominated and winning, but it's disappointing. |

That's some list of "masterpieces" there huh?

Re: The 84th Academy Awards --> 2012 Awards Show Discussion
I have seen all of the best picture nominees except for Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Midnight in Paris, and The Tree of Life. I'm not sure which one I'm going for, but likely The Artist.
Not much blew me out of the water this year though. |

Oh, man. This is great. This page has animated .GIFs of the reaction shots of a bunch of losing acting nominees.

Watching Red Carpet now. Wish they spoke more about movies and less about fashion. Bleh.

Re: The 84th Academy Awards --> 2012 Awards Show Discussion
Thats the only interesting thing about the Oscars so far the Sasha Baron Cohen getting booted thing. Why didn't they just hire Sasha Baron Cohen to host the Oscars? He's in a nominated movie, he'd prob pull a younger demographic than Billy Crystal, my 19 year old sister asked me what movies Billy Crystal is know for the other day. It amazes me she's never seen City Slickers.
