The problem with the franchise isn't Bay, he knows how to put together great action scequences.
The problem with the franchise isn't LaBeouf, he is a good centerpiece for these tentpole moves.
The problem with the franchise is that once the novelty of giant robots fighting wears off usually around 10 minutes into the movie, the rest just becomes noise. You don't get emotionally attached to robots, they're machines with no personality.

Statham isn't exactly a deal-breaker.
These movies have been god awful and will continue to be terrible with or without his presence.
Sure, some of the SFX have been stellar... but the films themselves are festering mounds of turgid shit.

I viewed the spectacles as I do the lenses on a scope or camera.
As for the beards, that's a homage to the G1 cartoon where they even had moustaches as well as beards:
What did irk me was that Que and Brains had hair in the third movie. At least with Jetfire and Sentinel Prime they made it plausible by making the facial hair actually be additional mechanical parts on their faces. They halfheartedly tried to excuse Brains' hair by making each strand some form of electrified tendrils but Que definitely had white hair. His mechanical moustache was fine but the white hair looked so damn weird.
If that's all thats holding them back, have GM build a new version of this guy:
Spoiler:
"Logic" problem solved.
One of these days you're gonna have to tell us what started this epic feud between you two.

Re: Hasbro in Talks for Fourth 'Transformers' Movie
Michael Bay is in final negotiations to direct a new Transformers film, insiders tell Vulture. In recent days, Bay has been assembling a cast for a long-gestating project that even predates Bay’s entry into planet-destroying, Pain and Gain, based on a three-part New Times story about the infamous “Sun Gym gang” a group of dimwitted Miami bodybuilders who kidnapped, tortured and robbed a Florida businessman but got their comeuppance when their left-for-dead victim hires a private eye to hunt them down. Insiders tell Vulture that Bay has been seeking to adapt the sordid revenge tale almost since its publication in 1999, and that it’s proving the major blandishment in getting Bay to commit to launching a new Transformers cycle. "Without Pain, there’s no tit for tat," explains one person familiar with the talks, "That’s Paramount’s leverage."
Another insider familiar with the situation cautioned that while Paramount “does not have a closed deal” with Bay, the studio “is not far from closing” on one either, and that an announcement could come as early as next week. Meanwhile, the details of the next cyborg saga are being kept secret, but we’re told that it is definitely not a prequel, and that it will delve deeper into Transformers canon to mine older characters and lore. "Regular people might not care about bringing out a character like Sentinel Prime," says one of our insiders, referring to the little-known character who played a major part in last summer’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon, "But believe me, fans of the series cared."
If both deals make, we are told that Bay is likely to begin shooting Pain and Gain early almost immediately – as soon as early spring – and then pivot to a new sequence of Transformers by winter 2012. "Spielberg does this all the time," says our insider, "where you’re doing art development and visual effects tests on your next movie while you’re still shooting the current one. The beauty of Michael doing Pain and Gain is that there’s no [technical] complexity to it compared to Transformers."
Or, in the words of Megatron, "The humans cannot stop us!"

I don't think Bay is the real problem here. Yes he indulges in some silly crap and Spielberg (and the other producers) need to hold his leesh tighter. However, what's really needed is a much better script. The premise for the third was great but it still felt like it was an unfinished screenplay.
Let Bay do his other movie and take the time to craft a better screenplay and just have him shoot that.

Shoot, if I was Paramount, I'd be going after Bay to direct the 4th one.
3 movies = $2.6 billion worldwide. And the overseas boxoffice for DOTM was pretty stellar.

Re: Hasbro in Talks for Fourth 'Transformers' Movie
You know until Hollywood remembers how to make a good action movie, who gives a damn?
Transformers is just the tip of the bloody awful iceberg that is the modern action movie. Cameras don't have to to shake relentlessly, you don't need to cut every few nanoseconds and being able to see the action would be a great start. Real stunts are needed, with CGI minimised… Obviously a film like Transformers needs plenty but filmmakers not making science fiction movies need to minimise it. That's my tuppence worth.

I'm fine with Bay returning.
I'm interested to see script-wise where they go in the 4th movie. I'm assuming that Paramount will probably bring back Orci and Kurtzman or Ehren Krueger to write the 4th movie.

You can also do a lot better. I'd love to see a Transformers movie that I can enjoy wholeheartedly and without caveats of "Well, the characters are shit. The plot makes no sense. But man how cool was it when Bumblebee transformed in mid-air around Sam?"

I'd love it if Guillermo Del Toro would direct a Transformers movie.
