FWIW you don't have to only log New Releases on the Rank Them As You See Them thread.

True, but I've always just kept it to theatrical releases so it was easier to create my 'best/worst' lists at the end of the year

Didn't the site change to a pay site if you want to add more then 20 movies?

Briefly. They still offer a paid service, but they removed the 20 film list limitation after people complained. Now the Pro features include personalised Year in Review stats page like this, Netflix filtering and integration, and data import via CSV. Nothing that the average user would miss.

You can read more about the Pro membership here: http://letterboxd.com/pro/

Personally I found it worth it, since I've been using the site daily since January and have gotten a lot of use out of it.

Ok I see it now.
Looks like since I am a beta user I still get to keep the NF integration.

So it looks like we're all booted back to zero in the "Films watched this year" stat. Previously, my diary of 2013 had 1,773 movies logged.

I really love all the "Sort" features that they have now. Obviously way more convenient to check out than your imdb functions.

My profile still shows how many films total I've seen, just reset the total movies watched this year.

Here is my ranked 2013 list:

I wish I had joined years ago, buy only really started using it Jan 1, 2019.
I love it for the purpose of tracking what I like and don't like, and it makes my end-of-year recollection much easier, but I couldn't really care less about the social aspects so much.

Is Pro really worth it? I'm considering doing it.

Not a paying member, but yeah. I’m still using it.

It hasn’t introduced me to Gems the way icheckmovies has, but I love it’s conveniences of going through genres & decades of films watched/un-watched.

Same here. It just helps track the stuff I rent and watch from the library.

I don't do any in depth reviews or anything, just assign some stars at the end of the movie.

Same here. It's great for being film-focused and I like that it isn't bogged down by garbage like most social media apps. It's really just for film nerds.

Re: Letterboxd: Social Networking for Film Geeks, Dweebs and Spazzes

I was bored the other day and figured I'd sign up for this. I'm mostly using it to log my own viewing, though I'll poke around people's reviews for certain films. It's been fun brainstorming every single movie I've seen - I only include ones I've watched fully - over the past 4 decades. I've gone through all of the threads I've posted in in this subforum and was reminded of movies I've watched that I completely forgot even existed. "Runaway Jury" and "The Great Raid" were things? Okay!

While I love seeing stats, the premium version is too steep for me, especially as an annual charge. If it were a modest one-time fee I'd probably splurge.

But some existential questions currently plaguing me: If I've only been exposed to a movie via MST3K/Rifftrax, did I really *see* it, man? Should mini-series be logged? Non-theatrical stand up comedy specials?

Yeah, plus it then has certain individual episodes of TV shows, or multi episode documentaries, 30 for 30 etc. short films, so it’s not “just” movies at some point.

Re: Letterboxd: Social Networking for Film Geeks, Dweebs and Spazzes

I must have joined Letterboxd sometime in 2018 (I'm not sure how to check my join date) when I participated in one of the Challenges and saw one of our Forum member Travis using it for a List. I used it sporadically until the pandemic hit in March and I had to work at home. That's when I started it using it heavily and noticed what a great site/app (iOS) this is for my movie watching and tracking. I log, rate and use the diary function which keeps track of the movies that I have seen. I'm way behind in my movie reviews but that's something that I'm working towards. I'm not a professional movie reviewer (obviously) so I don't write essays about the movie, cast and cinematography like some people in there but I like writing my thoughts about the movies that I watched. I do go into greater details for movies that made a big impression on me but most of them are just a paragraph or two in length detailing things about the movie that I liked or disliked.

My first thought about this site was that it was going to be another knockoff of Facebook or other Social Media site with the emphasis on movies but is not like that at all (for the most part). I loved reading the reviews of the movies and seeing the wide range of opinions people have for them. Yes, just like any Social Media site, it can get quite toxic but I try to stay away from it and can be easily avoided. I thought it was silly not having a DM method for a site that claims to be a Social Media site, but I see it was the right choice because it helps people cut down on the abuse and harassment.

As other have indicated, the site can be better as sometimes movies are displayed with foreign release posters and their synopsis are wrong. They make submitting corrections a hassle and I still don't like the fact that people can log or review a movie that hasn't been released yet. But those are just minor complaints.

I'm a free member but I'm thinking of upgrading to Pro to support the site.

I have followed everyone that linked their profile in this thread and wrote a quick reply in one of your review as to who I am. My avatar on Letterboxd is an animated version of DVD Talk along with the same user name. Feel free to add me and just write a quick reply in one of my reviews saying "DVD Talk and your username" and I will follow you back.
