D'Onofrio, 50 Cent enter 'The Tomb'

Amy Ryan, Vinnie Jones also join Summit actioner
By Jeff Sneider, Justin Kroll

After working together on Lionsgate's crime pic "Fire With Fire," Vincent D'Onofrio, Vinnie Jones and 50 Cent will reunite on Summit's action-thriller "The Tomb," which has also cast Oscar nominee Amy Ryan as its female lead.

Mikael Hafstrom is directing the film, which stars Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as Jim Caviezel.

Stallone plays an expert on structural security who is framed and put in a high-security prison of his own design. He must put his skills to the test to find out who put him there.

Ryan will play Stallone's business partner and potential love interest. D'Onofrio is in talks to play the deputy director of the Prisons Bureau who convinces Stallone to take one last job before he retires. Jones will play a ruthless guard with no moral compass who enjoys making life difficult for the protag.

$70 million pic is being co-financed by worldwide rights holder Summit and Emmett/Furla Films, which produced "Fire With Fire." Randall Emmett and George Furla are producing with Mark Canton, Robbie Brenner and Kevin King-Templeton. Miles Chapman wrote the script, with Jason Keller providing a rewrite and Chapman doing subsequent revisions.

Gersh-repped Ryan, who recently starred in "Win Win," will soon be seen opposite Guy Pearce in Drake Doremus' next film.

Since leaving "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," D"Onofrio has channeled his inner multi-hyphenate. He recently directed the horror musical "Don't Go in the Woods" and he's writing, producing and co-starring in an indie adaptation of Eric Bogosian's debut novel "Mall." Thesp will next be seen opposite Ethan Hawke in Scott Derrickson's "Sinister," which Summit is distributing.

Jones recently appeared alongside D'Onofrio in Jonathan Hensleigh's "Kill the Irishman."

50 Cent has become a go-to thesp for Emmett/Furla, as he also appears in the company's "Setup" with Bruce Willis, "Freelancers" with Robert De Niro and "The Frozen Ground" with Nicolas Cage.

D'Onofrio is repped by UTA and The Collective, while APA and Elevate Entertainment rep Jones. 50 Cent is repped by CAA and attorney Aron Baumel.

I like D'Onofrio

re: Escape Plan (2013) S: Stallone, Schwarzenegger

I'm kinda with snake when it comes to the old school action flicks....I grew up with these self conscious, ego driven, steroid & growth hormone messes and It's always good to see them in new movies (well....when the movies they're in are at least somewhat watchable anyway).

As for the looking good at 65 years age comment....no, they COULD have looked good at 65, instead they look like plastic versions of themselves as previously mentioned due to all the steroids and HGH.

IMO 65 nowadays just simply is not that old either.

re: Escape Plan (2013) S: Stallone, Schwarzenegger

The Stallone/Schwarzenegger prison movie has a new name and release date

In the halcyon days of early 2012, when the success of The Expendables seemed to auger a brave new comeback era for the ’80s beefcake action heroes, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone announced that they would co-star in a prison-break film called The Tomb. One year later, Stallone and Schwarzenegger have both starred separately in box office duds — Bullet to the Head and The Last Stand – but The Tomb is still slated to hit theaters in September. In fact, now it’ll hit theaters a little earlier: The film has moved its release date up to Sept. 13, opposite Machete Kills and Insidious Part 2.

With a new release date comes a new title: Escape Plan. That’s a bit more plot-descriptive: Stallone stars in the film as a brilliant prison architect who has to break out of the world’s greatest prison with Schwarzenegger, and presumably they do indeed conceive some kind of “plan” for their putative “escape.” The film also stars Jim Caviezel, 50 Cent, Sam Neill, and Vinnie Jones.
WTF is this going against Machete? This is as bad as Punisher and Kill Bill 2 out the same weekend.

Escape Plan. Sounds like a generic direct-to-video title (not unlike Bullet to the Head and The Last Stand)

Well, to be fair, people might have confused The Tomb as being a documentary about both of their careers.

Yeah, although simple, The Tomb sounded like a much better title.

Putting it up against Machete Kills and Insidious Part 2 makes no sense. This is sadly going to bomb, just like their other recent movies.

re: Escape Plan (2013) S: Stallone, Schwarzenegger

Yeah it seems like it would have been a better idea to move this to a slower week. I'm sure Insidious 2 will clean up as it seems like PG-13 horror films usually do pretty decent and the first Insidious was actually fairly entertaining. It sort of seems like they're setting themselves up to fail a bit as neither The Last Stand or Bullet to the Head did very well as is against nothing. Maybe they're trying to give an excuse for if it doesn't do good business . On the plus side September 13th has three movies I really want to see coming out.

re: Escape Plan (2013) S: Stallone, Schwarzenegger

Moved to Oct 18th.

"Another Stallone/Schwarzenegger flick got a new release date: Escape Plan (formerly titled The Tomb) has shifted its release date for a second time. Now slated for Oct. 18, 2013, the prison escape movie was previously set for Sept. 13 after originally being scheduled for Sept. 27. The new October date puts Escape Plan up against Joseph Gordon-Levitt-directed and -written Don Jon, the Chloe Moretz-starring Carrie remake, and fantasy movie The Seventh Son."

That sounds worse of a move for the film.

re: Escape Plan (2013) S: Stallone, Schwarzenegger

Carrie will definitely take the wknd, but that should be a younger audience. There's really no good place for the film, it'll do maybe marginally better than their recent solo outings. They need The Expendables - which is like The Avengers for these guys, lol.

Hm. No trailer yet. Hopefully one is forthcoming. Not digging the new title, but maybe I was just used to the old one.

The old title was better that's why. The new one screams of a more generic type.

The old title, while not great, was far more evocative than the new title which makes it sound like DTV release.

re: Escape Plan (2013) S: Stallone, Schwarzenegger

I like the old title better than the new one too. Not that The Tomb is any more original but for some reason Escape Plan sounds more generic/direct to DVD/Blu-ray to me.
