Red Lights -- D: Cortes S: Murphy, Weaver, DeNiro -- (2012)
Director: Rodrigo Cortes (Buried)
Writer: Rodrigo Cortes Starring: Cillian Murphy, Sigourney Weaver, Robert DeNiro Plot: Psychologist Margaret Matheson (Weaver) and her assistant (Murphy) study paranormal activity, which leads them to investigate a world-renowned psychic(DeNiro). <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/IzDOkA6O6rE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I thought Buried was solid...didn't live up to the hype, but I enjoyed it. I can't remember the last time Cillian Murphy was in a shitty movie so I doubt he'd sign up for it if he thought the script sucked. EDIT: well I guess "In Time" wasn't that great, critically speaking. |

I'm a big fan of Murphy. I used to be excited when I saw DeNiro's name, but I'm not anymore.

Saw this on Saturday and noticed that some of the finance originated from Spain and that, from the names, most of the people working on this were Hispanic. Maybe this influenced my thinking but the film had a kind of moody, occasionally dreamlike "European"/art-house feel to it. It struck me as a little like an X-files episode, a Twin Peaks spin off or a (superior?) TV movie but with big names in it.
I didn't think that it really went anywhere in spite of a "reveal" at the end. Both Weaver and de Niro seems a little wasted in their roles and the others probably were as well but I'm less familiar with their work. Look out for the OTT fight in the toilet in the final third of the film! |
Re: Red Lights -- D: Cortes S: Murphy, Weaver, DeNiro -- (2012)
This...this was mildly entertaining I guess. The script is messy and convoluted and the twist at the end is a groaner.
I did think the acting was first rate though. I agree with benedict that the cinematography was good and had that Euro feel to it. I can't recommend it, but you could watch a lot worse films. |
Re: Red Lights -- D: Cortes S: Murphy, Weaver, DeNiro -- (2012)
Not good. Weaver was okay, but Murphy's performance was just making faces. DeNiro was lousy as well.
The plot was somewhat interesting, although not very engaging, until it crapped out at the end with a ridiculous twist. |
