New "Terminator" film coming...

... and it's probably going to piss many fans off worse than the last installment.

From Dark Horizons:

The "Terminator" franchise is coming back sooner than anticipated, but in an unexpected format.

Hannover House and Red Bear Entertainment are teaming to develop "Terminator 3000", a $70 million 3D animated feature based on the characters and storyline of the franchise according to a press release.

The project will tone down the violence as it plans to target a PG-13 rating. Story details however are being kept top secret.

Pacificor, LLC scored the rights to the franchise in January and holds licensing authority over the proposed project. Both companies will release further details later this year in the leadup to the production kicking off in January.

Uhg. I'd be okay with this as a spinoff or a derivative property that has its own continuity. But as the future of the franchise? No.

This will be great in 3D.

3D. Animated. PG-13. Ugh.

Fail. There was recently a DTV Terminator animated film that ended up in the bargain bin after a week.

And PG-13? The pussification of R films continues.

Didn't realize that- what is it called?

That doesn't even make sense. Since when does the MPAA care about violence?

that's what I thought. Gimme some the guys here on the forum to work w/ it. And I bet..we'll at least crank out a much better film than T3 and T4...or I'll just give the rights back to Cameron cuz well...if I never get to see another Terminator film..at least I know it's in safe hands. Can't believe he had to give up the rights to Terminator. So much shit since he had to do that.

If they hire some talented writer(s) and director, I will keep an open mind on this project.

However I think mainstream movie goers will be turned off by it being animated. Audiences will prefer live action. Its gonna take a kick ass marketing plan to get people in the seats for a animated film thats not family friendly.

Also, that Machinima animated dvd sucks. I rented it and its very dull and the animation is video game style. And not very good video game style.

my love for terminator ended after part 2. Part III was ok just because the blonde bitch got some juicy tits and a fine ass. Gorgeous bitch. Plus arney was in it.

Re: New "Terminator" film coming...

The franchise has been fucked since Cameron left it. With all of these cartoons, TV shows, video games, books and shitty movies that have been made since 1991, the Terminator universe is a messy and unorganized series of events. This will only further fuck up the already beaten story.

Re: New "Terminator" film coming...

If Star Wars couldn't get butts into seats for a CGI film, this certainly won't. The war between Skynet and humanity is one of those things that worked better as a myth and a tease... coincidentally just like the Clone Wars in Star Wars. :) The more they show, the less interesting the whole franchise becomes.

Unless this movie is going in a completely different direction, but given it's all CGI I doubt it.

Hollywood is so devoid of original ideas these days. Please stop milking another great franchise!!!

Umm, that's what Machinima is.

If it's a franchise, it's meant to be milked. You don't see many one-movie franchises do you?

I'm in the minority, but I actually liked Salvation quite a bit. Was hoping they'd pick up from there...

This new development sounds very lame.

Re: New "Terminator" film coming...

I didn't know they had a Terminator: Salvation animated movie. I just youtubed it and it doesn't look very good.
Even the action plays out like a video game and it doesn't look very graphic.

Terminator, T2 and The Sarah Connor Chronicles were the only ones that are worth watching for me. It would have been cool if they could have made a third film that focused specifically. Something like NOW Comic's Terminator: The Burning Earth and traditional war movies like Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, etc.

I mean the 1991 film had liquid metal terminators and yet the 2008 movie went back to endoskeletons.

Re: New "Terminator" film coming...

Honestly...Terminator series died for me once 2 ended. T3 was a plot ridden and horrible film w/ too much unconvincing CGI. T4 has a poorly written plot but had good action.

Re: New "Terminator" film coming...

Like someone said if Star Wars can't get people into theaters with an animated feature this is sure to flop. They should just go the direct to video route if this is their plan.

Personally while I didn't love Terminator: Salvation I'd much rather see an attempt at a live action sequel to that than some (most-likely to be) crappy animated feature.
