I know of one way they can resurrect this franchise to a whole new level. By bringing in Arnold's son:
Spoiler for size:
Seriously...bulk up more and he could be the next Terminator.

The judge didn't seem to think it was ludicrous.

Re: Terminator 5
Judges aren't always right. Harlan claimed that Cameron stole ideas from two "Outer Limits" episodes he'd written. The first was about two human soldiers sent back in time by accident, which doesn't match Cameron's mythos at all. The second, "Demon with a Glass Hand", involved aliens taking over the world, not machines.
Besides, is it really so hard to believe that two talented writers can come up with (vaguely) similar ideas completely on their own?

Ellison's lawsuit against the Terminator was settled out-of-court with the production company. I don't think it ever made it to court.
I believe that the basis of Ellison's suit was an interview Cameron gave where he mentioned getting the idea for The Terminator from an old Outer Limits episode. I'm unsure where this interview was from, as I've never read it or even seen a mention of where it was published.

Edit: I just re-watched the video and apparently that portion of the article was cut before it went to print.

Re: Terminator 5
Home video had not been around very long when the first "Terminator" was made; it was hardly "popular" as Ellison claimed. The similarities between his stories and the franchise are superficial at best. I'd like to know why none of these outside "sources" have ever come forward publicly, because it seems like Ellison has the bigger ego. There's a far cry between being inspired by someone else's work and "ripping it off".

I've never really thought about it before but the first Terminator film does kind of feel like a feature length Twilight Zone episode. Someone should do a good re-edit of the film down to the length of a Twilight Zone episode. I think that would be pretty cool.

Re: Terminator 5
The Terminator movies changed distributors/production companies so many times over the years.
T1: was an Indie film for all intents and purposes and Orion distributed it.
T2: Produced by Carolco, distributed by Tri-Star Pictures
T3: Produced by C2, distributed by WB
T4: Produced by Halcyon, distributed by WB
T5: now this one is being produced by Skydance and most likely being distributed by Paramount.
Has any other film franchise changed production companies, distributors this much?

It feels more like an episode of The Outer Limits, actually.

Re: Terminator 5
Toho has made all it's films. Distribution wise it may get tricky. G vs. KK is universal's, maybe just here...I'm not sure. The US G was Sony. And it's now with WB under Legendary.

Point of order: Toho was and still is the main rights holder to the IP of Godzilla. They have sold theatrical and home video rights to various groups over the years, but at the end of the day, they all answer to Toho.
