Re: SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED (2012) (dir. Trevorrow) (Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass)

Saw this today... I was very entertained by it. Aubrey Plaza just came out of nowhere for me... I'd seen her before (Scott Pilgrim, Funny People), but it got downright distracting at times how beautiful she is. I never really noticed.

There was like one Star Wars joke in the movie... don't be offput by that in the description above.

Re: the government agents:

Spoiler:
I hardly think they guaranteed he would be a time traveler, since he actually had committed several crimes. I was still 50/50 on him just being nuts up until they actually broke into his shed.

I really liked the parallel between the actual time travel, and Johnson's unsuccessful attempt to travel back to his own youth. As an aging fart, that storyline struck a good chord with me as well.

A+

saw this at the beginning of the month and I agree with CaptainMarvel in your letter grade of the movie - I said to my friend who saw this me "can we see this again - now?"

This movie should be pretty big when it comes to disc in a few weeks. Like others have said, Aubrey Plaza is great.

Plaza is fantastic - I just wish the co-workers subplot wasn't there...to me it drags down the movie quite a bit.

To me, it wasn't the greatest either, but there probably had to be some sort of B-plot for story pacing, length, etc. to provide a change-up from the main story. Overall, I loved this and will definitely get the BD at some point.

See, at times, I thought the subplot with the co-workers worked especially involving Jake Johnson's character and his need to "revisit" the past (and having it go in the direction he didn't want).

I loved this movie. It hit all the right notes. Although did anyone else notice that Mark Duplass appeared to be wearing Elizabethan levels of makeup?

The coworkers, their story, was important to the film. As to the plot it framed the mocking/disbelieving general wide response to the 'time travel ad' thing. Also, the play of the cynical Johnson character wanting to 'go back' for the same reason was a concurrent theme to the time travel reasoning by Duplass. They played off each other. The whole idea of the time travel was 'going back', and Johnson was literally 'going back' with his interaction with the lost love, and figuratively 'going back' by vicariously living through the dork intern and getting him to loosen up and revel in and experience his youth. Johnson had obviously lost his, and was a manchild who couldn't cope with it and wanted to 'go back'.

Aubrey's falling for the fairy tale trip of Duplass and his ideas, was confronted by her regular returns to the coworkers, the 'real world', and built the theme of her mocking disbelief, but coming to like and possibly believe in Duplass, but back to mocking disbelief as a possible act, but not wanting to hurt and betray him, etc.

I thought it all came together really well. The coworkers expanded on and developed the main themes, and added to the main story in the process.

I didn't notice the makeup, but I did notice the ear a lot.

Is the ear thing implying that he's an alien? Hence knows how time travel technology works?

I took it as he lost it the "first" time he did it. To imply that Safety Is NOT Guaranteed!

Really loved this. Quirky, funny in all the right spots, and yea the co-worker subplot needed to be there.

Day one purchase for me.

for most of my friends/family, they are a tad clueless to physical media and my preferences ... "blu-ray? what's that?" I might as well say," oh just get me a Best Buy gift card... sheesh" ...

Re: SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED (2012) (dir. Trevorrow) (Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass)

I watched this because I saw it on a few people's top 10 lists here. I enjoyed all the characters and the set up quite a bit.

Spoiler:
I didn't care for the end and him turning out to actually be a time traveler though. Sometimes the far out stuff works in movies, but for me it just didn't here. I was expecting some sort of bitter sweet ending given everything we see with the characters, so his machine actually working kind of just took me out of it. I can see why others loved it though.

Finally watched this (on Netflix) and really enjoyed it. I remember reading the original Craigslist ad on the Best of Craigslist.

Quite entertaining throughout.
I thought for sure Darius was going to find a note from herself in the little box.

I watched this yesterday. I liked it quite a bit. I've been kind of meh on Aubrey Plaza, but I loved her in this. The ending really did catch me by surprise. Not at all what I was expecting.

Re: SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED (2012) (dir. Trevorrow) (Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass)

Just watched this and really loved it. A few days later my daughter asked me if I had watched it and told me it was one of her favorite movies in the last year. Pretty sure it was entirely appropriate for a 12 yr old but i guess i'm a little proud she appreciates that kinda film.
