Looks decent...wonder where they're going to go with it....hopefully this isn't the installment that brings the series down.

And here's the poster:

It's been a while since I've seen PA3. That's the coven symbol in "October", right?

Me too but the trailer does give the "past its prime" sequel vibe. Looks like the focus is two potentially annoying teenagers and it may have no relation to the first three.

But then again, that may not be the case at all.

I think that the new Paranormal Activity 4 trailer looks like more of the same, but with different people. Hopefully it finds a way to connect to the first three. If it doesn't connect much to the originals, this is going to be extremely disappointing. If this movie truly is going away from the main family plot, then I definitely think that it's time that this franchise should be over. Then again, I think that this series should have been over regardless since each sequel feels just like more of the same.

I can see where you're coming from....the thing that makes these flicks effective though is the setup of the scares throughout....but what brings it altogether is the foundation of the family (i.e. who did what and why, why were they involved the way they were, etc...) but it's a the point where yeah we get the scares....but we're always left up in the air as to why things are the way they are (meaning wer're not getting enough of what led things to be the way they are).

This new trailer just feels like they are riding it out so to speak...but again, we'll see.

I think it will directly connect to the first three.

Spoiler:
The kid standing outside the house in the trailer is the baby who was abducted in the second film.

That was my first thought too but look at the date on the bottom right in the trailer.

yea...kid standing on lawn turning off lights seems about 5 years older than the kid from part 2. makes sense.

The kid from part 2 was a baby. So 5 years later he'd be like 6. When he pops into the room he's obviously not 6. Though I guess the kid on the lawn and the one in the room might not be the same person.

I truly hope that you're correct. It would be awful if the fourth had nothing to do with the first three. Your theory would definitely make sense, but who knows. Sometimes studios make strange choices with story lines.

My guess is the kid is the link to the living world that the demon will use to come through or something like that.

Think so. Does it have a real world meaning or use?

Any ways, the poster looks like a porno-knockoff of the first one.

Sadly, I expect my hopes will be dashed.

From Collider:

And here are reactions to the workprint from folks who saw it at Fantastic Fest:

Paranormal 4 is a lot of smart set pieces in search of a compelling ending.

— Eric Vespe (@EricVespe) September 27, 2012

Seems I’m one of the few who appreciated PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4. It’s clearly rough, but some good ideas and fine interplay. It’ll get better

— PeterSHall (@PeterSHall) September 27, 2012

I’d be shocked if the final cut of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4 doesn’t have big changes. It’s very much so a workprint.

— PeterSHall (@PeterSHall) September 27, 2012

PA4 doesn’t work. At all. Work print aside, it’s boring, silly and does NOTHING for the mythology. Disappointed after the awesome PA3

— timbuel (@timbuel) September 27, 2012

Withholding true judgement until final cut but that PA4 work print was not pleasing to me.

— timbuel (@timbuel) September 27, 2012

PARANORMAL 4 is the most legit funny installment, and strangely the most violent. Last third feels incomplete but maybe it is – we saw a WIP

— John Gholson (@gholson) September 27, 2012

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4 goes down like mild picante. Weak. Sauce. #FF2012

— Trevor T. Trujillo (@TrevorTrujillo) September 27, 2012

Paranormal Activity 4 as a WIP is already an improvement over PA3. Love that these movies built almost completely on tension are hits.

IGN review: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/09/...ivity-4-review

While I'm obviously going to see this flick.....that second trailer didn't do anything for me. I'm hoping it's great but I think the PA train has come to a stop.

For those who are curious: Paramount will continue the streak of "early" screenings and tickets have already been put up for sale at select theaters for 9:00pm on Thursday, October 18th.

Nice product placement  Trailer isn't that great; but it's Joost and Schulman, so it should at least be alright.

How in the hell did I miss that Joost and Schulman are returning? Must be getting old.

Peli (if he had the full say) definitely picked the right directors to try and keep this thing going but again...it does seem like it's pretty stale now but now that my dumb-ass knows who's directing....here's hoping the best.

Re: Paranormal Activity 4 (Director TBD, October 2012)

Kinda of disappointing that they still used the same formula, tactics and pace for this 4th installment. Nothing was really scary. It actually turned out to be more predictable than scary. The story did progress a little more. I really wished they take a little more time prepping this film. It felt like they were on a deadline to get this one out by Halloween so there is no time to really be innovative.
