As someone else mentioned, it's the logic that if a studio sells off foreign rights and keeps domestic rights, and a film flops domestically, it probably won't try to make a sequel, unless someone like Vivendi gets involved.
(Is it a rule that any foreign movie needs to be financed by a minimum of a half-dozen parties?)
Yet, we all watched the third one. It's The Matrix of foreign action films.
Darkest Hour is one of those sci-fi films that looks interesting in concept yet never manages to do well critically. I usually apply a +20 modifier to Metacritic to see if a sci-fi movie is worth watching.
