Re: 2011 New York Film Critics Circle Awards
I'm really curious to see The Artist; could be great or awful, depending, but it's a fascinating idea.
As far as The Iron Lady.... Well, I'll have to wait and see what people make of it, but I'm not tempted at all by the idea of giving that horrendous force of regression even an iota of appreciation. I'm sure she was "human," but I'm equally sure she does not deserve to be "humanized" cinematically after all the damage she did. (If you want a worthwhile and honest look at Thatcher's world, just watch Mike Leigh's Naked!) Even with Meryl Streep doing one of her transformations, it has about as much appeal for me as would an American film about Reagan called "The Cowboy," which is to say less than zero. (To name off yet another symbol of that godforsaken decade.)

I've heard a lot of great things about A Separation, so I'm really looking forward to it. I'm a big fan of a lot of the films that have been coming out of Iran (and some of the surrounding countries in the Middle East) in the last two decades.
