Anyway, for fans of the horror genre it's really hard to read reviews. Most of the time mainstream critics will rate these movies low when they are released. But in this case, even some of the horror/genre websites are rating the movie low.

Funny thing, I was reading a mainstream review and they compared the movie to the Paranormal Activity series. How the PA series is great, and this is a really bad ripoff. Of course when the first PA movie was released it received really low (mainstream) ratings, and now is a "classic".

One review that I liked is the one from io9: http://io9.com/5873613/ (The Devil Inside is a great exorcism movie possessed by a bad one). That should give you an idea. Anyway, I think I made my mind and will wait for Netflix.

actually when PA1 was still in the "DEMAND IT TO SHOW IN THEATERS" campaign and only playing at midnight in college towns, the big mainstream critics (Ebert, Peter Travers) were the ones gushing over it in addition to the horror critics

Apollo 18 had that as well. Didn't work then either.

Meh, I usually see most exorcism/possession movies as a force of habit. Will probably rent this. The spoiler doesn't bother me ...

Really? God, that sounds lame as hell. I heard that movie was shit, too.

I just got back from the showing. Honestly, I didn't think the movie was half bad. Maybe it's just because i'm a sucker for these fake documentary/found footage movies. I didn't even have a problem with the ending. With all that was shown in the movie, anything else would have been overkill. I was already getting restless.

The backlash the ending is getting is pretty funny. The crowd I saw it with threw popcorn at the screen, numerous shouts of "That's gay", and lots of booing. It's the standard type of ending for this genre.

Here's the problem with the ending: IT ENDS MID-CLIMAX.

As someone who majored in both English and Film, it's a fucking cop-out. It's a film that has a first and a majority of a second act with no third act to be found. It treats the audience like a moron and expects them to like it. Thankfully audiences across the country have been tearing this piece of shit apart with good reason.

As someone who has loved Paranormal Activity (and the most recent outing), The Devil Inside is the cinematic equivalent of getting a dick slapped in your face.

EXORCIST II is great, but I don't remember it having an actual exorcism in it, so it wouldn't count, would it?

Hey, there are some women out there and even guys that pay just for that.

^^^^Is that the money this movie is going to lose?

No, that's just some of the money Paramount just got a license to print. Twenty-seven million dollars by monday morning on a million-dollar investment (plus p&A)? That's just good business.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a lot less than the projections. Word is getting out fast about the bullshit ending. Let's face it, the movie looks cool. But with reports of people swearing at the screen at Friday showings, it'll get around fast.

It doesn't even matter at this point, though. It was all profit once the midnight #s came out.

On top of seeing for the first time in a movie a baby getting baptized, choked and drowned in a Christian Catholic Holy Water inside a Roman Catholic Church , the other best part seeing this movie is my date hugged me a lot :)

Above it...forgettable :(

I posted this in the Weekend Box Office thread, but it deserves to be posted on here too:

Because the breakdown was ‘A’ = 16%, ‘B’ = 18%, ‘C’ = 24%, ‘D’ = 23%, ‘F’ = 19%. I’ll admit I went to public school but I think this should have got us a ‘C’!”

Just pulled this from Wikipedia because Deadline said they've never seen a movie get an "F" cinemascore before:

Six films have earned the F grade, including George Clooney's 2002 remake of Solaris, and five horror thrillers: Ashley Judd's Bug (2006), Wolf Creek (2005), Darkness (2002), The Box (2009) with Cameron Diaz, and The Devil Inside.

Question: Why doen't Cinemascore have a website showing what every movie has been rated?

Re: The Devil Inside (2012)

Wolf Creek has to be much better than this.

2 of those movies are probably because of people not doing research on the film, or being misled by marketing. Solaris because of Clooney's name attached, and Bug.

I worked at Blockbuster when Bug came out, and I lost count of all the pissed off customers who hated the movie. By reading the back of the case, it sounds like a typical horror movie, with a couple fighting off swarms of bugs. Even Amazon is infected (Ha!) with 1 star ratings.

As for The Box, yea I would have given it an F too. What a flop.

Reason enough for me to never trust their ratings.

Re: The Devil Inside (2012)

I loved the remake of Solaris for two reasons:
  1. I thought it was an interesting adaptation/re-imagination of the novel and Russian film.
  2. I got laid by my date after the film.

However, most of America is retarded and probably had no fucking clue what they were walking into. I've never seen more walkouts during a film than Solaris. When the film started, the theater was close to 75% capacity. By time the end credits appeared, the theater was close to 20% capacity.

I thought Bug was a great little psychological thriller, but I'm sure everyone went in expecting torture porn based upon Lionsgate's misleading advertisements for the flick.

Wolf Creek was awful, but a lot better than The Devil's Inside as there's a beginning, middle and end. The same could be said about Darkness which is close to being an abomination.

... and I thought The Box was fun.
