So has McDonalds. Doesn't mean their food isn't garbage. The Bus was talking quality-wise.

You're right, just like not everybody out there thinks watching dogs copulate, diaper-fetish porn, scatting and bukkake, or Justin Bieber sucks. Everything anywhere has an audience of some kind no matter how sick.

I actually enjoy watching the <b>Transformers</b> films and have seen all of Bay's movies theatrically. <b>Bad Boys 2</b>, I will maintain, is the epitome of the American action blockbuster. But what are people expecting from <b>Transformers</b>, exactly?

Snyder has made one really fun movie (<b>Dawn of the Dead</b>), one hilariously uneven one (<b>300</b>), and one devotionally slavish film (<b>Watchmen</b>) that was a bit dull but nevertheless was a respectable attempt and worthy of people's time/attention. How anyone had high expectations of quality from <b>Sucker Punch</b> is beyond me.

And Tarsem is a visualist of the highest order. His films, sadly, have all the appeal of a perfume commercial. He needs to work with a talented screenwriter.

Attack the Block -which is why I rarely ever listen to or put any faith movie critics.
Hangover 2- no explanation necessary.
Super 8- I was more interested in the movie the kids were making... :(

I largely agree with that. I just don't think it should be too surprising that some people in the film community were anticipating his next film, since The Fall has developed such a following.

On a side note, I didn't realize that Singh was his patronym, and that he should be referred to as Tarsem. Mental note made.

Green Lantern for me. He should have ben flying round WHILE making the constructs and not glued to the ground. I realize it would've been harder and probably more expensive but that's the character right?

Super 8 was pretty forgettable. My cousin put it on during Thanksgiving and the 2nd half of the film really doesn't work. Jabrams needs a new creature creator/designer cuz you can pretty much interchange the monster from Crapverfield, Star Trek (2009) and this movie.

Hangover 2.

Green Lantern, Hangover 2, and Sucker Punch were the biggest disappointments to me. I've liked Snyder's previous stuff so yes, its not a stretch to be disappointed with Sucker Punch.

You were expecting Hall Pass to be good? The Farrelly's haven't made a good movie since There's Something About Mary. I hope you don't have high expectations for The Three Stooges too.

Biggest disappointment:
Werner Herzog's CAVE OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS. Sure, the cave paintings were great in 3-D and they probably would have been great in 2-D. Anybody could have shot them and they would have been great. The rest of the film was a complete waste. They didn't find anybody interesting enough to tell us something about the culture and history of the people who created them. Or an art historian's take on the style and design and execution of the paintings.

Almost every film in 2011. I've gone to the movies about 15 times this year. I used to go almost every weekend but Hollywood has stopped trying since about 2009. Next year looks to be fantastic again with almost all of my favorite directors releasing films. Super 8 and Cowboys & Aliens were my two biggest disappointments.

so many disappointments this year for me. im starting to see RT 90 % + movies as being a bad thing for a film. it usually means it is an extremely safe and sappy thing
for instance, planet of the apes, super 8, hugo, the descendents, hated all of them.

I'm starting to feel this way too. It seems like Hollywood has been able to put together the formula for a solid, well-acted quality movie. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing but there seems to be a lack of originality.

For me, The Descendants. I like Alexander Payne a lot, which is why I was so disappointed. How could someone sharp enough to come up with Citizen Ruth have made this? If I want to watch bad, sentimental sitcoms, I can do it for free at home.

J. Edgar and Contagion.

While J. Edgar and Contagion were by no means terrible films, they nowhere near lived up to my expectations.

Hangover 2 would be the second

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Paul and Attack the Block.

I'd start a new thread that's the reverse of this one, but no one would post in it. I couldn't lead fat people to cake.

The other thread about biggest surprise doesn't nearly have as many comments. Tough crowd, everyone has high expectations.

Re: Biggest disappointment of 2011?

I'm probably going to get shit for saying this but another one that I really disliked this year was Drive. I don't understand why so many people are gushing over this movie and just found it to be pretty stupid and over the top violent for seemingly no reason. Normally that kind of thing doesn't bother me but this movie did for some reason. The motivation of the main character seemed pretty weak as well to me for him to snap. I don't really care much for Ryan Gosling as an actor is a big part I think of why I didn't care for the movie.
