Some McCartney albums sounded too Beatles like so I didn't buy them.

That teaser was too spoilery, but it looks fun. I didn't expect to be saying that about a film with this subject matter, but here we are.

The trailer didn't do much for me. But I'll still see it in theaters based on Tarantino track record alone. Hopefully the trailer was more TWC in the way it was cut than it was Tarantino.

Yes, I am what you'd pejoratively call a Tarantino fanboy. Yes, your statement still rings false to me. When I dislike something, I don't send the link to other people. Even if it's something I dislike that I *am* curious to gauge opinion of that I then might put on my facebook/twitter, I don't get a unanimous monolithic response from everyone I share it with, let alone one that conveniently backs up my own opinion.
If you don't like the trailer, just say so. I certainly won't think less of you. It's just unbecoming and insecure to have to make up reasons to make a statement seem more convincing, that's all.

I was hoping to catch this on the big screen at midnight, but missed it. Strange though, we were asked to only add the trailer to 2D shows of Prometheus, even though 3D/IMAX 3D shows routinely have 2D trailers added. I doubt it's an "at filmmaker's request" situation since we usually get packaged notes or e-mails about that.

Saw Prometheus today..my audience enjoyed the trailer. There were a lot "wtf" from the audience when that zoom in on DiCaprio was there. They enjoyed it.

I love how people complain that the TRAILER didn't meet expectations. Anyone who's read the script knows that this barely scratches the surface of things.
The script is an original, the cast looks energetic, QT shows a great eye for detail (blood splatter on cotton!!!). Those unimpressed can stay home on Christmas and watch The Smurfs with the rest of the family.

lol why would you post something like that? I'm a HUGE Tarantino fan by the way.

Then on the other side are people saying "it looks typically Tarantino" and then complain about that.
I just can't believe something like Django's line at the end of the trailer, when he says nothing could be better than killing white people for money, barely elicits a response from anyone. If this is a harbinger, then just like Inglourious Basterds this movie's going to take a while to sink in.
Just having that line out there in the marketplace selling a movie is pretty amazing, I think.

The trailer is all we have, its not like the movie is out yet to be judged. And yes I know the script is out there considering half the posts in this thread are people making sure everyone knows they read the script and how cool they are because of it. Personally though, I don't understand wanting to read the script before seeing the movie. It would ruin the experience for me knowing what's going to happen already.
First, no one's trying to look "cool" by saying they've read the script. It's out there, people can read it if they want, end of story.
As to your second part:
For me, I'm interested transformation from script to screen, which I don't really get to learn about with many movies obviously. Off the top of my head I ask questions such as: Will there be major changes? What camera angles will be used, and why? What kind of actor do I picture in this role? If the pick is different, in what way did I see it differently than the casting director? How will the lines be delivered? How will an actor/DP/casting director perceive the script?
I mean honestly there's a ton to learn, I don't see how it subtracts from the experience. On top of that, there's usually the actual enjoyment one gets from reading it.
One could say the same thing about being "ruined" by books. Granted those are meant to be consumed independently of the film, but by that same token the movie can be "ruined" for the cinematographer, the actors, agents, everyone who reads the script.

I still prefer not knowing what's going to happen before seeing the film though. If I want to see the process, I can go back and look at the script later. I still wonder if I would have liked The Sixth Sense had I not had the twist spoiled in advance.
And yes, the people that create the film have to know the outcome, but it's not really being made for them, is it? Well, except for Adrien Brody in The Thin Red Line, who was shocked that the movie he "starred" in featured very little of his performance.

I can understand that perspective, but given the opportunity I would like to read it before the film gets made so I don't have preconceived notions of the actors, etc. But it's not like this is a regular thing for me either, so the opportunities are few and far between.
I too had The Sixth Sense ruined, but by a friend who blurted it out. All I did was say "I heard there was a twist" then he said yes and actually told me. That sucked!

Tarantino can do whatever he wants and I'll probably enjoy it.
I did expect more The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly and less ... you know, Tarantino. It's like when Scorsese did The Departed. In my head, I was expecting Goodfellas/Casino/Brining Out the Dead. But he really toned it back and went "traditional", while still putting his stamp on it (the voiceovers, the murders, the music choices).
And Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown is really the only "grounded" movies he's done.
