Refresh my memory on this.
Also, I could have enjoyed Inglorious Basterds if QT hadn't "changed history." I enjoyed Brad Pitt's performance, I enjoyed the comic relief he presented. I just didn't like Hitler and the rest being burned alive in a movie theater. That was just dumb. Ruined it for me, and I liked 2/3'rds of the film.

The famous ear slicing scene was a reference to a similar ear slicing scene in Django. This is probably the best example of how the references in his films changed. As he took something from a Spaghetti Western and transformed it while still borrowing as opposed to his later films where there is far less, if any, transformation of genre or mood.

The film starts off with:
Pretty much setting up that this was going to be different. At least for me. Add in that QT films always have a sense of being pretty unreal.

Did you go in thinking history wasn't going to be changed in some way w/ this film? The mere idea of putting a fictional story in a WW2 set film changes history in general. Many films have done it. Though I can't say that many of them literally went out and killed Hitler.

He's really going to hate Lincoln. The part where Abe commits suicide in the bunker is a little out of left field but very sentimental in typical Spielberg fashion.

In his praise of Jackie Brown in this video clip, Mark Kermode seems to completely miss that it was an adaptation of a novel (the book "Rum Punch" by Elmore Leonard) and NOT an original screenplay, which (IMO) is the primary reason why it is so different from Tarantino's other films (all of which are based on original screenplays written, or co-written, by him).

QT interview w/ Playboy
here's a nice bit about the casting though:
here's a nice bit about the casting though:
I met six different actors and had extensive meetings with all of them, and I went in-depth on all of their work,” Tarantino tells Playboy (in the issue that will be on stands Nov. 20). “Idris Elba, Chris Tucker, Terrence Howard, M.K. Williams [from HBO's Boardwalk Empire], Tyrese. They all appreciated the material, and I was going to put them through the paces, make them go off against one another and kind of put up an obstacle course. And then I met Jamie and realized I didn’t need to do that.” So what was it about Foxx that led Tarantino to cast him? “He was the cowboy… Forget the fact that he has his own horse — and that is actually his horse in the movie. He’s from Texas; he understands. …He understood what it’s like to be thought of as an ‘other.’”

What about it? I'm pretty sure a lot of black actors wanted a chance at that. Not unreal that Gibson would want a chance at it.

Also there's Chris Tucker...who from what I hear is actually a good actor from Silver Linings Playbook.

Tucker could be a great actor, if he ever acted. I can't say he's picky, either, since he's only made "Rush Hour" movies since 1997.
That QT Playboy interview is great.
