Tarsem's "Mirror, Mirror" (Julia Roberts - March 16,2012)

Tarsem's has certainly been busy with a version of the Snow White fairy tale starring Julie Roberts coming out next March

The trailer is up:

No. Not feeling it. Snow White and the Huntsman looks 20X better than this. I can see this one doing well with little girls and their families, though.

This one just looked awful. It's currently getting torn to shreds over on the deadline blog. Everyone is (rightfully) saying it looks like nothing more than a made for TV piece of crap. Like they decided to put Julia Roberts into Once Upon a Time and this was the crap that resulted.

This looks gawdawful, even the visuals, which is all Tarsem is known for. Snow White and the Huntsman looks much better, despite the awkward title and the presence of the Twilight chick.

Yeah, it looks terrible. The tone of the movie just seems way off.

Awful, my expectations for these have been completely reversed this last week with the trailers.

Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who has the bushiest eyebrows of them all?

It doesn't look bad. Just disposable. That said, whoever cut that trailer deserves to be shot. It's clearly a screwball comedy (in the vein of Ella Enchanted) but it's narrated and scored like a deadly serious flick.

However, did anyone get the feeling during the first few seconds of the trailer that Tarsem was making a Bollywood musical based on Snow White?

So when does this debut on BBCA?

This one has way more midgets than Huntsman. Advantage: Mirror, Mirror.

Julia's performance seems very inconsistent throughout the trailer. In some scenes she's in full character, with the evil queen voice, chewing scenery like an over-the-top villain should. Then in other scenes she just seems like her typical self... regular speaking voice and pattern.

I don't hate the trailer... if anything if looks like a live action version of a CGI-era animated fairytale movie, like Tangled for instance. I agree with Defiant1 that the visual style looks pretty flat for a Tarsem film.

No worse than Immortals. At least not everything is predominantly brown and gold.

wow dvdtalk has bad taste these days. you all loved alice in wonderland. at least this has real sets and not just a CGI fest. i think it looks brilliant... I can't wait to see it. tarsem is a visionary, of visual filmmaking. no one went to the immotrals to see good writing. we only went to see insane ideas on the screen that haven't been seen since the golden age of silent films, like metropolis.

julia roberts sucks in it no doubt, but the kids will probably like it. I bet it will be 10 X better than enchanted and wonderland

I wouldn't call it bad taste, but highly judgemental - DVDTalkers are sounding just as bitchy as the blu-ray.com schlubs.

Tarsem is a one hit wonder. All his movies except The Fall have been garbage.

I couldn't even make it through the trailer. Tarsem would be so much more highly regarded if his films were silent.

I had no issue getting through the trailer. My issue is that the trailer is cut and narrated in a manner that is clearly the polar opposite of that of the film and the trailer also has that "bombard the viewer until their synapses explode" manic style to it that I hate. There's no real flow or ryth to the trailer.

That said, the opening moments make me suspect this is a Bollywood/South Asian musical masquerading as a comedy/fantasy/romance flick. I can't seem to shake that feeling and it's not because Tarsem is Indian. It's something exclusive to this flick in particular.
