(Maybe moviegoers aren’t as moronic as Hollywood thinks they are.) While the 300-clone Immortals, the 3D pic from Relativity, may not make more than 40% of the $70.8M opening weekend amount that the original 2D movie did. Immortals right now is looking to be the #1 movie at the North American box office but “could be anybody’s ballgame tonight,” a rival studio exec cautions me. Immortals did $1.4M in midnight gross from approximately 900 locations which is so-so. On the other hand, Warner Bros’ J. Edgar is looking at a strong per screen average for Clint Eastwood’s and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar-buzzed biopic. Top 5 like this but check in later:
1. Immortals (Relativity)
$28M estimated weekend from 3,112 Theaters for debut
2. Jack And Jill (Sony Pictures)
$25M estimated weekend from 3,438 Theaters for debut
3. Puss In Boots (DreamWorks Animation/Paramount)
$22M estimated weekend from 3,903 Theaters for Week 3
4. J. Edgar (Warner Bros)
$18M estimated weekend from 1,901 Theaters after opening Wednesday in limited run
5. Tower Heist (Universal)
$15M estimated weekend from 3,370 Theaters for Week 2

I doubt Jack and Jill will be a flop, though. Don't most Adam Sandler comedies have budgets of like $60 - 80 million? I think it will easily make that back.

I was somewhat amazed that only 8 people were at the Friday 1:45 p.m. showing of J&J at my nearby AMC theater, where it was being played in the largest theater, too.

I was very surprised at how many people were at the 10:35am showing of IMMORTALS - but of course all the AMC pre-noon shows are on the cheap side, and being a ETX 3D presentation 11 dollars is a plus.

Adam Sandler has given up. He really hasn't made a movie that was anywhere near the word 'funny' in ages.
This steaming pile just screams, "I make crap, so what, give me money!"
If I could have any production company burn to the ground it would be his Happy Madison Productions.

Nice to see Immortals doing well, I haven't really been hooked by the previews but I'm definitely curious to check it out.

I was really thinking Jack and Jill was going to be a monster hit. Was really looking forward to all the comments about how much everyone hates mainstream America and blah blah blah that is always in these weekend box office threads every time a crap movie is in the top spot.

Paranormal Activity 3 just passed the $100 million mark in the US and now has a $189 million worldwide total. The original's total was $193 million.

I would only see one movie in the top 10 and even that I'm not rushing to see. I did see a film today but doubt it's in the top 20 of course. 'Martha Marcy May Marlene'. Very Good.
I kinda expected Tower Heist to bomb a bit, don't know why just expected it.

Jack & Jill really zookeepered in the bed compared to other Adam Sandler flicks.
I said this in a different thread, I'm a Sandler fan but have zero interest in seeing J&J. It looks awful.

Agree, I will typically watch them but this gives off a Little Nicky vibe... one of his comedy bombs. And one of the few Sandler movies I have not seen.

Jack and Jill is the WORST movie Ive ever seen...Well, the worst 20 minutes Ive ever seen, I walked out on it. Sandler is just going through the motions. AWFUL movie...
